Leeds youngster Drameh set for loan move

Leeds United youngster Cody Drameh is set to join Cardiff City on loan for the remainder of the season, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Drameh earns minutes for Leeds

The 20-year-old is currently one of the brightest young players at Elland Road, with Marcelo Bielsa showing trust in him this season.

With Leeds suffering from a number of injury problems at the back, Drameh has five senior appearances to his name in 2021/22, featuring in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat away to West Ham in the FA Cup third round.

It could be that a temporary move away makes sense for the youngster, though, and it looks as though that will happen.

The Latest: Loan exit close

Taking to Twitter on Sunday evening, Romano claimed that Drameh is on the verge of joining Championship side Cardiff until the campaign reaches its conclusion.

The Bluebirds’ bitter rivals Swansea City are also thought to have been in the mix but they have missed out on their man.

The Verdict: Shrewd short-term move

Drameh looks like a young player with plenty of potential, but the evidence from this season is that regular minutes will be hard to come by at Leeds, making a loan move the best option in the coming months.

It will hopefully allow the defender to be a regular starter in a senior team, testing himself in a league which is famed for being hugely competitive and physical.

The hope is that Drameh will return to Elland Road a more complete player in the summer, having had a prolonged run of action at senior level for Cardiff as they seek to pull away from the Championship danger zone.

Andrea Belotti is West Ham’s main target

West Ham manager David Moyes has now made Torino star Andrea Belotti one of his side’s main transfer targets…

What’s the story?

According to WestHamFans.org, the Italy international has been identified by the Irons boss as one of his principal striker targets, and the 28-year-old has recently snubbed a move to the likes of Newcastle and Al-Hilal.

The report adds that West Ham would be able to sign him on a pre-contract deal for this summer due to his contract expiring rather than right now in this January transfer window.

Fans will be buzzing

If Hammers fans wanted a genuinely proven option up front to help compete with Michail Antonio, then Belotti certainly does fit that bill to a tee.

Vastly experienced with his time in Italian football, the forward was of course part of the Italy side that won last summer’s EUROs, and has got a phenomenal goal-scoring record, bagging 107 goals in just 238 games for Torino, and 137 goals over his senior club career.

Joe Hart, who played with Belotti in his time at Torino, praised him for his “instinct for goals”, and that kind of knack is something that you just don’t lose.

In the £25.2m-rated Belotti, they would be getting someone who has been banging in the goals in Serie A for a number of years now. The 28-year-old is the man who wears Torino’s armband, and has been hailed as a “real captain” for his performances for the club.

As well as the supply of goals that he would bring to the table, Belotti would bring some real leadership too, and fans will surely be buzzing at seeing him join.

Meanwhile, West Ham are also eyeing this “unplayable” winger…

ScorecardLeicestershire fast bowler Nadeem Malik took four wickets as the Foxes claimed a 12-run win over the Northamptonshire Steelbacks in the Friends Provident t20 at Wantage Road. Australia international Andrew McDonald top-scored with 49 off 35 balls for the Foxes, who posted 149 for 8 from their 18 overs with former Sri Lanka seamer Chaminda Vaas the pick of the Steelbacks attack, taking 2 for 24.Malik then took 4 for 25 as Northants only made 137 for 9 in reply, with Mal Loye making 39 as they collapsed from 106 for 3 in their last five overs. Leicestershire won the toss and chose to bat first, but the heavens opened 25 minutes before the scheduled start forcing a 50-minute delay and the loss of two overs per side. When the players did emerge, the Foxes got off to a disastrous start when Jacques Du Toit was run out with the very first ball by the bowler Vaas. Former Australia all-rounder Brad Hodge (16) was then stumped by Northants wicketkeeper Niall O’Brien off the bowling of Nicky Boje.Ex-England keeper Paul Nixon made 16 before being bowled by the Steelbacks captain Andrew Hall. Vaas then claimed two wickets in the 13th over when Will Jefferson (6) smashed him to Loye at point before he caught and bowled James Taylor, who made just a single.McDonald, who smashed two sixes, went by launching Boje to Vishal Tripathi at deep cover before James Benning (9) was caught by Boje at midwicket off Hall. Claude Henderson then hammered 32 off 14 balls, including three massive sixes before being caught at long-on by Alex Wakely off Lee Daggett, who conceded 19 off the final over.Chasing 150, Northants lost O’Brien (9) in the second over when he was superbly caught at point by Taylor off Harry Gurney. Rob White made 13 before launching Leicestershire skipper Matthew Hoggard to Jefferson at midwicket and Henderson took out Boje’s middle stump to leave the hosts on 73 for 3.Northants needed to score at 10 an over with five overs left but Hall made 27 off 18 balls before his leg stump was sent spinning by Malik and this started the collapse. He repeated the trick with Loye before Wakely (11) launched him to McDonald at long-off.Vaas made a single before smashing Malik to Jefferson at long-on and James Middlebrook (1) launched Hoggard to Taylor at extra cover. Vishal Tripathi (5) was then run out by Taylor at deep midwicket in the final over as Northants came up short.

PCB under scrutiny for funds mismanagement

A parliamentary committee in Pakistan has ordered an inquiry into alleged misappropriation of more than USD 3.5 million of the country’s cricket funds, officials said on Tuesday

Deco, who is now sporting director at Camp Nou, took in 57 international appearances alongside CR7 during his playing days. They only suffered 10 defeats when lining up together, with both men making their senior debuts for the Selecao in 2003.

Ronaldo has gone on to become a five-time Ballon d’Or winner and all-time great, but that potential was always clear to see. He used to leave team-mates amazed in training and on match days, with Deco spotting one particular trait that he had never seen in anybody else.

WHAT DECO SAID ABOUT RONALDO

Deco has told of what makes Ronaldo so special: “Simply being around someone who was obviously different, on and off the pitch. I was struck by his ability, his speed and the way he played. His game had a lot of intensity. He tired out the opposition – he didn’t let the opposing full-back breathe. That was something I hadn’t seen in any player up to that point. He always had great technical ability, too. It was amazing to watch him.”

Ronaldo started out as a tricky winger, as he danced around opposition full-backs with quick feet, but quickly morphed into a fearsome frontman and is now the proud owner of countless goalscoring records. He is still going strong at 39 years of age, with there no sign of the evergreen icon slowing down at Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr or with the Portuguese national team as they ready themselves for Euro 2024.

Bielsa set for timely Leeds injury boost

Leeds United could be set for a huge and very timely injury boost after winger Jack Harrison was pictured back in the gym ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Liverpool…

What’s the latest?

The 23-year-old limped off during their heavy 4-1 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend, a worrying sign with the side already barren due to injuries. Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa was missing as many as 11 players, of which nine were first-team regulars.

So losing another key man in Harrison would have been a major blow before such a massive and hectic period of the season.

However, it appears that all is fine with the former Manchester City youth product after he posted an image to social media of him training in the gym at Thorp Arch (via MoT Leeds News).

The £13.5m-rated ace was pictured on a bike and he captioned it by saying he was “recovering,” so presumably that means he is all good heading into the remaining festive schedule.

Huge boost

Whilst this does not completely confirm his availability, it is certainly an exciting sign, particularly given the ongoing injury nightmare in west Yorkshire right now.

With the likes of Patrick Bamford, Daniel James and Rodrigo, Bielsa was light on attacking options. If they are all absent yet again, Harrison’s involvement will likely serve as a huge boost at a desperate time of need.

His season so far has hardly gone to plan, registering only one assist from 15 league appearances, via Transfermarkt, but on his day, he is a crucial player for the Argentinian head coach.

For instance, last season he directly contributed towards 16 goals in 34 starts, only missing two games for the club.

Such form saw him rank as Leeds’ fifth-best player, per WhoScored figures, just behind Kalvin Phillips, whilst only Raphinha managed to create more key chances and dribbles per game than the Englishman.

“He’s a player who, when he manages to play at his best version, he has a big influence on our offensive game,” once lauded Bielsa. That only goes to show his importance to the side even more.

Therefore, supporters around Elland Road should be buzzing that Harrison could be available post-Christmas when the struggling Yorkshiremen face Steven Gerrard’s resurgent Aston Villa side.

The fact that he is in the gym is encouraging.

Tottenham transfer news on Sayers

An insider at Tottenham Hotspur has now dropped some insight on their new signing Charlie Sayers.

The Lowdown: Sayers signs

As confirmed on Tuesday afternoon on the official website of the Spurs faithful, Sayers has now joined the Academy from Southend United on a scholarship programme.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-5/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The North London club were reportedly ‘impressed’ with the young left-back, who has spent the last few weeks on trial with them, as per Lilywhites insider John Wenham.

He had played in six matches for Southend in the National League earlier this season, before making his debut for THFC’s U18s (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Wenham on Sayers

Speaking to Football Insider, Wenham has now given some insight into Sayers, and claims that he could be promoted to the U23s soon:

“I knew he was going to sign as soon as he captained the Under 18s last week.

“We wouldn’t have given him the armband if he was still on trial.

“From what I understand he’s already trained with the Under 23s as well.

“Everything else I have heard about him is really exciting. He’s already played for Southend’s senior side.

“He can carry that experience into the Under 18s and he will be looking at a space in the Under 23s too.

“Dennis Cirkin left and joined Sunderland in the summer and we haven’t replaced him.

“So, is there a chance for him to go even further straight away? I wouldn’t rule it out.

“This is a really exciting move and I can’t wait to follow Sayers’ development.”

The Verdict: Bright future

The fact that he is only 17 years of age and could be promoted to the U23s already suggests that Sayers has a bright future on his hands.

Having already played senior football with Southend, he would have learned a lot from his experience, and playing in those physical games will only speed up his development.

If the Englishman can now impress with the U23s as well as the U18s, he should certainly catch the eye of Antonio Conte, who could use some cover for Sergio Reguilon at left-back, given that Ben Davies has been playing as a central defender in his new system.

Nonetheless, Sayers is a player that you can see coming through the Academy and into the senior squad at a later date.

Man United can offload Wan Bissaka

Manchester United are expected to have several outgoings this summer due to contract expiration, but Erik ten Hag could be set to offload even more players as new transfer interest emerges.

What’s the latest?

According to The Athletic, Crystal Palace are interested in bringing back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Selhurst Park this summer.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

The report suggests that there has been no official move made for the right-back, and no decision will be made on his future at Old Trafford until new manager Ten Hag has come in to assess the squad he has inherited.

This comes following the news that fellow defender Harry Maguire may also exit in the summer

Forget Maguire

This new development from Crystal Palace could be a huge benefit to the Dutch coach, who can finally axe the defender from the team as he attempts to rebuild the squad and revive the club when he joins this summer.

The 24-year-old defender who was dubbed “reckless” by Jamie Carragher, has been disappointing in his 26 appearances for the club this season with uninspiring and poor defensive performances throughout.

Wan-Bissaka has had two errors leading to shots, gave away a penalty to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, loses possession 14 times per game on average, has only won 37% of his aerial duels and only wins possession 0.3 times per game.

That proves the right-back is showing no dominance or threat in his position and making costly mistakes that have contributed to Manchester United’s poor season.

The Red Devils are said to be already looking at replacements to fill the boots in the right-back role, with the Daily Mail reporting back in January that they are eyeing up a move for Tariq Lamptey this summer, so this speculation about a move back to London for Wan-Bissaka could be a win-win situation for both the player and the club.

With Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani all set to leave on a free this summer, Ten Hag will likely have a busy transfer window ahead of him and we could see a number of new faces at Man United this summer whilst many old faces are shown the door to kick off the new manager’s revolution.

White waits for another bowl

Cameron White has not given up bowling and says he would love the chance to do more of it

Cricinfo staff26-Jan-2010Cameron White has not given up bowling and says he would love the chance to do more of it. Until the past year White has been picked more for his spin than his power hitting and was even elevated to the Test team in India in 2008 as Australia’s preferred slow man.But his batting has been hot since the limited-overs tour of England and he scored a hundred and a half-century in the opening two games against Pakistan to show he deserves a spot in the upper half of the order. As he has provided more runs he has delivered fewer overs, and hasn’t been called by Ricky Ponting since he got three balls against Scotland in August. That was 21 ODIs ago.”I’ve done a little bit for Victoria, I’ve done a little bit in four-day cricket,” he said in the Australian. “I didn’t bowl at all in the Twenty20s and not much in one-day cricket. If I get in the position to get a bowl [for Australia] I would love to, but at this stage I am just working on it in the nets and we’ll see how it goes.”I understand my role the way I am going at the moment, we’ve got plenty of bowling options. I am ready to bowl if required, but it doesn’t seem as if I am needed.” In 49 ODIs he has 12 wickets at 28.75 and an economy rate of almost 6.5 runs an over.White’s hitting has been so strong over the past week that he has won comparisons with Andrew Symonds, whose exit last year gave White a chance to cement his spot. “Andrew’s a fantastic player and was a great player for a long time, I think it would be a bit unfair to compare me to Andrew,” he said. “I am just enjoying the role. I am playing naturally and freely at No.5 and when I get the chance toward the end of the innings it’s good to hit some fours and sixes.”
