According to a report by Calcio Atalanta, West Ham United and Manchester United have made telephone calls in the race to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu – with the player having one destination in mind.

The Lowdown: West Ham join Tomiyasu race…

Despite Tottenham holding a strong interest in Tomiyasu over the last few days, with the Athletic reporter David Ornstein revealing their bid to sign him, West Ham are also apparently in the race.

The Bologna starlet has been one of their more crucial players in Serie A, making 31 starts over 2020/2021, and this has prompted interest from the Premier League.

As well as West Ham and Spurs, Man United are said to be keeping tabs on his situation, with Calcio Atalanta now bringing the latest.

The Latest: Report makes phone call claim…

The Italian website believes that both the Hammers and United have made phone calls asking for information on the 22-year-old ace.

However, with Tottenham’s interest very strong, West Ham’s capital rivals appear to be the favourites for his signature and Tomiyasu favours a move there despite the lack of Champions League football.

Spurs find themselves competing in the new UEFA Europa Conference League next season while West Ham managed to secure a place in the Europa League group stages.

Regardless, it appears Tomiyasu would be ‘particularly enthusiastic’ about Tottenham.

The Verdict: Move on…

While West Ham are on the hunt for a new central defender and probably need at leas one signing in that area with a gruelling European campaign to come, we believe the Irons should now move on from Tomiyasu with Spurs seeming inevitable.

The 23-cap international, lauded as a ‘giant’ through the Italian media, would have been a fine addition undoubtedly but there are also great alternatives from Serie A – like 6 foot 4 powerhouse Nikola Milenkovic, who has also been linked with a switch to the capital.

O desembargador Melentovytc chegou ao plantão judiciário por volta das 8h e teve uma conversa de aproximadamente 40 minutos com as partes. Ele ouviu os argumentos, mas acabou transferindo a missão de julgar o recurso. A redistribuição do processo será feita a partir das 11h desta sexta-feira.

O procurador da Ferj, Sandro Trindade, um dos que levaram o recurso ao plantão judiciário, aproveitou para fazer uma retratação. Na noite de quinta, ele chegou a questionar o desembargador por não estar presente no TJ, mesmo de plantão, o que adiou a definição para esta sexta.

– Eu queria fazer uma retratação. Disse que o plantão não estava atendendo a contento. Fiquei sabendo que à noite o processo já estava na mão do desembargador, ele estava analisando a questão. Por saber que a venda de ingressos não se implementaria na madrugada, entendeu por bem analisar com maior profundidade e se programou para nos receber na parte da manhã. Queria fazer um pedido formal de retratação. Acabei me posicionando de maneira equivocada – afirmou.

وأوضحت الرابطة في بيان رسمي، أن زيادة أعداد الجماهير تأتي في ظل خطة استكمال عودة الجماهير بصورة تدريجية. وجاء بيان رابطة الأندية على النحو التالي:

في إطار حرص رابطة الأندية المصرية المحترفة لكرة القدم على استكمال عودة الجماهير لحضور المباريات بصورة تدريجية وذلك من منطلق إيمانها بدورهم الإيجابي وكونهم من العناصر الرئيسية لنجاح اللعبة، وبالتنسيق مع شركاء النجاح (اتحاد الكرة – شركة برزنتيشن – شركة تذكرتي – الشركة الإفريقية) فقد تقررما يلي:

أولاً: زيادة عدد الجماهيـر إلـى (5000) مشجع لكـل مباراة بدلاً مـن (2000) مشجع، وذلك بداية من مباريات الدور الثاني (الجولة الثامنة عشر لبطولة الدوري العام المصري.

Everton’s hopes of signing Matheus Nunes look to be over, with Rafa Benitez’s appointment reportedly scuppering any chances of a deal for the Sporting Lisbon ace.

What’s the word?

According to Portuguese news outlet Record (via Sport Witness), whilst Everton were ‘very close’ to signing the 22-year-old just a few weeks ago, they no longer appear to be interested in him following Benitez’s arrival at Goodison Park.

It is suggested that, had Everton appointed former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo as they looked close to doing not long ago, then a deal for Nunes would likely have been completed for around €16m, despite his €60m release clause with the Liga NOS side.

Would Nunes have been a good signing for Everton?

Nunes was a regular for Sporting Lisbon last season as they were crowned champions of the Portuguese top-flight, making 31 league appearances and contributing three goals and two assists.

Whilst Everton boast strong options such as Allan, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Abdoulaye Doucoure in their midfield, all of these players are 28 or older, and Nunes could have perhaps been a long-term successor in the heart of Everton’s side.

Former teammate Goncalo Santos detailed why Nunes would be such a good signing for Everton earlier this year when he spoke to Liverpool Echo, saying:

“Matheus is a box-to-box player. He’s not so strong like midfielders in the Premier League but he’s very fast. He’s very good with the ball because he is a Brazilian boy. They know how to play with the ball.

“If you are in the defensive phase and he gets the ball, he can run with it and fire the team 30 yards up the pitch because he is so good in possession.”

Therefore, it seems clear that Nunes would have been a good option for Everton to have next season and in the long-term, so Blues fans will undoubtedly be gutted that the appointment of Benitez has seemingly caused the deal to fall through.

Football.London’s Chelsea correspondent Sam Inkersole, has virtually ruled out Timo Werner exiting the club this window.

The German made the much-anticipated move from RB Leipzig 12 months ago, and despite the Blues winning the Champions League and Werner scoring more goals and assists than anyone else in squad, he’s been mainly underwhelming.

He contributed to 27 goals in his 53 appearances in all competitions, which are impressive numbers, but missed several big chances – and netted just six times in the Premier League.

Despite his confidence issues in front of goal, Thomas Tuchel continued to back his compatriot, with only Mason Mount playing more for Chelsea than the Germany international last term.

His poor first campaign in English football led to speculation over his future and whether the Blues would look to cash-in on him after just one season.

But with Olivier Giroud expected to complete a move to AC Milan, and both Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi both out of favour under Tuchel, Inkersole told Football FanCast that Chelsea’s lack of strikers should lead to Werner staying at Stamford Bridge:

“There’s not a lot of strikers on the books at Chelsea. I’d be very surprised if Werner left after one season.

“Tuchel showed a lot of trust in him, he played him regularly. You have to put it into perspective, it’s his first season away from Germany, new league, new team, but I’d be staggered if he goes anywhere this summer.”
