West Ham United fans are far from happy after it was revealed the Hammers made an offer of just £6m for goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The Hammers are continuing their preparations for the new campaign after a wonderful last term – they managed a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, meaning they will be playing in the Europa League this coming term. However, despite now needing to compete on four fronts, the Irons are yet to make a splash in the transfer market.

A goalkeeper is believed to be on the cards, and West Ham have been linked with a move for Johnstone, who was relegated to the Championship last season with West Brom. According to Sky Sports, the Hammers made an offer of just £6m for Johnstone, which was clearly not enough for the Baggies.

The news was shared on Twitter by @WestHam_Central, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Após começar 2017 como titular, Alecsandro perdeu espaço para Borja e Willian. São apenas cinco jogos na temporada e nenhum gol. Enquanto vinha jogando pouco, ele chegou a receber sondagens, como do Botafogo. Mas não quis sair, nem diminuiu sua intensidade nos treinos.

Com a classificação garantida para as quartas de final e a uma vitória de ficar com a primeira colocação geral do Paulista, Eduardo tem dado rodagem aos reservas no fim da fase de grupos. Diante do Mirassol, Antônio Carlos e Rafael Marques, por exemplo, começaram jogando, e Erik e Alecsandro entraram no segundo tempo.

– Estes caras te instigam e eles sabem que a gente está olhando. Vou confidenciar, o Alecsandro joga sábado. Ele entrou bem (contra o Mirassol), estava programado, então a gente procura ser honesto e olhar, valorizar os caras que estão buscando. Por isso falei ontem (quarta), a gente às vezes dá mais atenção para quem não está jogando do que quem está. Quem jogou é tranquilo. Ontem (quarta) eu já fiz a preleção, falei depois do jogo, já estão de saco cheio da gente (risos). Eu tenho que cuidar desses aqui (que não jogaram). E dei o treino como se todos fossem jogar sábado. Todos estão preparados para jogar no sábado – completou.

Alecsandro foi o vice-artilheiro do Palmeiras em 2016, com 12 gols – pelo Verdão são 59 partidas e 14 gols ao todo. Seu contrato vence no fim deste ano.

Unfortunately for them (and also for the game of cricket) the yardstick, which these youngsters choose as their reference of comparison, is the statistical analysis of these players.By the above I do not wish to run down or devalue the importance of statistics in the game of cricket. Indeed the study of facts and figures forms an integral part of the cricketing canvas. Probably no other sport in the world lays as much stress and importance on statistics as the game of cricket. The amount of time, research and printed space allotted to statistics by the world of cricket is immense, to the extent of being phenomenal. Indeed the grasp of cricketing records and their implications on performances and merits is of pivotal importance for any cricketing academy but the problem begins when an overdose of importance is attached to statistics alone and other factors are neglected.For me to write on such a topic is more difficult than most would imagine. Not only because I myself started in the field of cricket writing as a statistician but more so because my favourite cricketing scribes have been the great statistician of our times. I am sure that I am not the only one who has based the foundations of his academic cricketing interests on the statistics of the game. But after having remained a chronic addict of facts and figures for so long, I feel that there is a limit to where numbers can guide us in our cricketing queries.Can we really call Taslim Arif the best ever batsman ever produced by Pakistan just because he has an average of 62.62? Can we forget the daredevil cavalier style of Maqsood Ahmed who won the title of ‘MERRY MAX’ on the merit of his aggressive batting in England but never managed a Test century?Is it just for us to call Zaheer Abbas a better batsman than Hanif Mohammad only because ‘ZED’ has more Test runs to his credit? Was Bob Willis a greater bowler than Fred Trueman just because he overtook Fred in the tally of Test scalps?All these are questions whose answer can never be found in the record books.Cricket may well be a numerical analysts’ dream come true but even then it is primarily the domain of the romantists and idealists.The rhythm, which flowed from the bat of Majid Khan in the 1976-77 series against New Zealand; or the sting of Imran’s swing and patience of Hanif’s marathon innings against the West Indies in 1957-58 can never be measured quantitatively.The stature of W.G. Grace, the sting of Fred Spofforth, the bite of Wes Hall, the charm of Bradman and the mastery of Garry Sobers is for posterity to remember. Their impact can neither be measured numerically nor can their performances be compared with those of current cricketers.As with Einstein’s theory of relativity so with cricket; the correct impact can only be ascertained in an environment.Bradman playing against Shoaib Akhtar would face as much of handicap as Tendulkar’s facing S.F. Barnes. Even if Shahid Afridi hits six sixes in an over today, he would neither be better nor worse a cricketer than Sir Garfield Sobers. Even if the record books say that Border, Gavaskar, Steve Waugh, Javed Miandad and Graham Gooch have more runs to their credit than Bradman it certainly does not imply that the latter was not as great a cricketing giant as the others.Drawing parallels in any field of life is a tricky business but in cricket it becomes all the more arduous since here we tend to overestimate the potentials of cricketing records. Indeed records are a great asset but let us not forget the statistics. Let us give due respect to those who create new records but then let us not forget those who created the original records in a time when doing so was a much more difficult and much less profitable exercise.

It’s thought that defensive duo Eric Dier and Matt Doherty could be two players that the Premier League outfit are looking to sell, as revealed by talkSPORT’s transfer expert Alex Crook on the ‘White and Jordan’ show this week.

“I think there will be more departures from North London this summer. And maybe some surprising names on this list.

“We know they’re open to offers for Davinson Sanchez and I’ve been told this morning that Eric Dier and Matt Doherty could also be surplus to requirements, and maybe that’s a bit of a surprise in the case of Doherty because he performed so admirably under Nuno at Wolves.”

Two key culprits

Spurs’ struggles at the back last season were no secret, and it is indeed why newly-appointed sporting director Fabio Paratici is primarily targeting additions in defence, notably in both Dier and Doherty’s positions.

Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero and Bologna right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu could be two instant replacements if negotiations go in favour of the Lilywhites in the coming days and weeks.

A combination of individual mistakes – such as Dier’s calamitous display at Leeds – and a lack of true leadership led to Spurs recording the worst defensive record of the traditional ‘big six’ – even arch-rivals Arsenal, who finished lower in the table, had a better defensive record.

After leaking five goals to Everton in the FA Cup, Doherty’s ability as a professional footballer was questioned by many, whilst he was dubbed a “serious liability” after their defeat to arch-rivals Arsenal.

يُذكر أن  كاف قرر إقامة المباراة النهائية لدوري الأبطال بين الأهلي والوداد يوم 30 مايو، في ملعب محمد الخامس بالدار البيضاء.

O Linense aceitou jogar as duas partidas contra o São Paulo no Morumbi em acordo entre os clubes que estão nas quartas de final. Tottenham Hotspur are said to have opened talks to sign Caleb Chukwuemeka from Northampton Town, according to Football Insider. 

The lowdown: Contract offers turned down

Chukwuemeka is a player attracting significant interest in recent months, with the forward catching the eye with some strong displays for Northampton Town’s academy teams.

Football Insider have labelled him as a ‘rising star’, with the 19-year-old previously attracting interest from Scottish giants Rangers, who recently won the league title under the management of Steven Gerrard.

Chukwuemeka’s current deal with Northampton Town is set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, and it is claimed that he has rejected the Cobblers’ attempts to tie him down to a new deal.

The latest: Talks with Spurs underway

Spurs have reportedly opened talks with Chukwuemeka over a potential agreement this summer, although it remains to be seen as to what stage they’re at with negotiations on a deal.

Football Insider’s Spurs source has claimed they are discussing offering one of their own young players as part of a potential swap deal, which could make the deal more appealing for Northampton Town.

Spurs’ scouts have reportedly been impressed with Chukwuemeka’s performances during pre-season, with it being claimed that there is a sense that he’s progressed to a new level.

The verdict: A shrewd move for the future

This could turn out to be a smart bit of business for Spurs.

Chukwuemeka has evidently got something about him if he’s attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including a club with the stature that Spurs currently have, as well as Gerrard’s Rangers – the Ibrox manager knows a thing or two about what it takes to succeed in the Premier League.

Obviously this wouldn’t be a deal that would be for the first-team straight away, with the forward not having any experience under his belt in the Premier League.

But in terms of a long-term vision, it’s a signing that could pay off in future seasons for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side if the youngster fulfils his potential.

وواصل: “من السيناريوهات المطروحة على طاولة الأهلي هو عودة أحمد ياسر ريان، ولكن لا يجوز أن يبتعد عن المشاركة لمدة 3 أشهر”.

واستكمل: “إذا كان لا يحتاجه الأهلي فيُفضل بيعه، اللاعب يرى مستقبله خارج مصر”.

وأتم: “خروج أحمد رفعت للاحتراف في إفريقيا الموسم المقبل أمر وارد، ومن المؤكد أنه سيكون لديه عروض في مصر أو في الخليج”.

He was run out on 149, otherwise he would have still be batting now.”Warwickshire were then dismissed for 294 on the second day with the wickets shared around between a strong Leicestershire attack which included Matthew Whiley, Charles Dagnall and Jamie Grove.But with the pitch getting slower all the time a draw always looked the most likely result. Leicestershire eventually set Warwickshire a target of 313 in 72 overs, but they finished well short for the loss of only one wicket.
