Rangers predicted XI to face St Johnstone

Rangers will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to six games as they face St Johnstone in the Premiership this lunchtime.

Steven Gerrard’s side have picked up four wins and one draw from their last five matches, beating Dunfermline, Ross County, Alashkert and Celtic and drawing with the Armenian side in Europa League qualifying.

They now travel to face a St Johnstone team who have only lost once in their opening four league matches this season.

Will Gerrard make any changes to the team which won the Old Firm derby a fortnight ago? Here is our predicted XI for the clash with St Johnstone today…

We are predicting that he will make three changes to his team from the win over Celtic, with James Tavernier, John Lundstram and Fashion Sakala returning to the side.

Firstly, we are predicting that captain James Tavernier will return in place of Leon Balogun at right-back. The Gers skipper has returned to training after missing the Old Firm derby due to a viral infection and we believe that Gerrard will throw him straight back into the side.

We published an in-depth article regarding this prospective decision, summarising that the attacking threat the 29-year-old offers down the right could be crucial against a stubborn St Johnstone side.

The second change we are predicting sees midfield beast John Lundstram come in for Joe Aribo, who struggled against the Hoops. He gave the ball away a whopping 23 times and lost 14 of his 20 duels on the pitch, suggesting that he was unable to compete with the Hoops on a physical level.

This could open the door for Lundstram to walk into the team to start for the second time in the Premiership this season. He started in the 1-0 loss to Dundee United and only gave possession away five times whilst winning two of his four duels. Therefore, he could be a solid option to come in for Aribo, as he is less liable to hand the ball back to the opposition.

Finally, we are predicting that Fashion Sakala will come into the side in place of Alfredo Morelos. The Colombia international ended up staying at Ibrox, but admitted in the build-up to the window’s closure that he was hopeful of landing a big transfer.

He has one goal in three Premiership starts this term and endured a tough match against Celtic. He lost 10 of his 15 duels and failed to register a shot on target, whilst also only completing 71% of his passes. This could indicate that his performance was perhaps affected by the transfer speculation, with one eye on a move away from the club.

Therefore, Sakala should be handed the chance to show that he can be the heir to Morelos’ throne in the number nine position at Rangers. An impressive performance from the Zambian could then motivate the 25-year-old to up his game and win his place back in the side in order to attract interest in his services ahead of the January window.

We are predicting that the rest of the team will remain the same from the win over the Hoops.

Fletcher has 'fresh plans' to beat Australia – Kallis

Jacques Kallis has said Australia can expect a few surprises from a South African think-tank that includes Duncan Fletcher during their upcoming three-Test series. Fletcher was England’s coach when they won the Ashes in 2005.”We have worked well with Duncan and he has got some new ideas to beat Australia,” Kallis told the . “He’s got some thoughts from the 2005 Ashes . . . but he has quite a few fresh plans for Australia this time around “England’s victory during the 2005 Ashes revolved largely around a four-man pace attack, with the likes of Simon Jones and Andrew Flintoff troubling the Australian batsman with reverse-swing, so much so that Australia hired Troy Cooley, England’s bowling coach during the 2005 contest. It was during Fletcher’s tenure, though, that England were blanked 5-0 in Australia, in 2006-07, and Australia have not lost a home series since 1992-93, when they were beaten 2-1 by West Indies in a five-Test series. Their record since that series reads: won 26, drawn 2.”I obviously can’t say much more on that . . . but our bowling is going to be quite crucial for us,” Kallis said.”There will be key moments in this series and we want to take advantage of them,” he said. “Australia have had a good couple of years and we are looking at this series as a huge challenge for us. We want to win any series but this one is particularly crucial for us.”Australia have been the benchmark and really dominant for the past 12 or 13 years and that is something we aspire to.” South Africa are yet to win a Test series in Australia, and have not won a contest against them since their readmission in 1991.They head to Australia unbeaten in their last nine Test series – winning eight of those – and are currently ranked No. 2 in the ICC rankings. Their last series loss was in Sri Lanka in 2006, with their only draw since then coming away against India earlier this year. Australia recently lost 2-0 to India but are still No. 1, a spot Ponting is confident they will maintain even if they lose against South Africa. The three-Test series begins in Perth on December 17, and will be followed by a return three-Test series from February.

Krejza stars in Tasmania win

Tasmania have kept their hopes of making the finals alive with a comfortable 28-run win over New South Wales

Tasmania have kept their hopes of making the finals alive with a comfortable 28-run win over New South Wales in the Twenty20 Big Bash clash at ANZ Stadium in Sydney. The Tigers dominated from start to finish after being sent in by the Blues captain Simon Katich. The openers Rhett Lockyear and Michael Dighton exploited the small dimensions of the Olympic Stadium with a powerful opening stand of 73 from 47 balls.Lockyear was particularly brutal with 51 from 29, including four towering sixes. Travis Birt picked up where Lockyear left off, clubbing five sixes of his own in a blistering 17-ball 44 to guide the visitors to 1 for 139 after 12 overs. But the Blues stopped the bleeding momentarily with Doug Bollinger and Mark Cameron claiming four wickets in ten deliveries. And when Dominic Thornely conceded only two runs from his fourth over, the 16th of the innings, the Tigers had lost 4 for 21 in four overs. Late hitting from Jason Krejza took the total to a very competitive 7 for 194. Katich may well have missed a trick only giving one over to his left-arm orthodox spinner Steve O’Keefe. This proved the case when Daniel Marsh manoeuvred his bowlers brilliantly to restrict the Blues to 8 for 166 in reply. Spin was the key to the Tigers’ performance, with Xavier Doherty opening and finishing with 2 for 26. Krejza bowled beautifully to add 3 for 23 to his 33 not out in a Man-of-the-Match performance.Marsh himself chipped in as the spinners mixed their pace cleverly to leave the Blues reeling. Moises Henriques was the only player to escape the web, smashing 42 from 25 at the top of the order. Both sides have one match remaining in which to qualify for a spot in the preliminary final.

Steve Parish struck gold by selling Bolasie

Selling key players at the right time for the right price is a fundamental part of life as a mid-table Premier League club aspiring to climb up the standings.

The likes of Leicester City have continually punched above their weight after becoming masters at doing just that, but others have only been able to do so on a handful of occasions.

Crystal Palace are one of those. The Eagles have offloaded a few gems during their nine-season stay in England’s top-flight, with the club receiving a record fee for academy graduate Aaron Wan-Bissaka when he joined Manchester United for £50m back in 2019.

However, it’s another high-profile departure who has really helped to earn Selhurst Park chairman Steve Parish a reputation as a smooth operator in the transfer market.

Five years ago, Palace received a whopping £26m fee from Premier League rivals Everton for skillful winger Yannick Bolasie.

Although the Democratic Republic of Congo international showed flashes of brilliance – especially during 2014/15 as he provided 11 Premier League assists – and had the potential to become a more efficient forward, he had only scored 13 goals in 144 appearances for Palace prior to his sale.

The now 32-year-old made a fast start to life on Merseyside, scoring one goal and laying on four assists for his teammates in his first 15 outings for the Toffees in all competitions.

However, he then suffered a devastating cruciate ligament injury which heavily impacted the future fortunes of his career. Bolasie only scored once more for Everton before embarking on a series of loan spells with varying degrees of success.

Short-term stints at the likes of Sporting Lisbon, Middlesbrough and Anderlecht failed to reignite his career, and he’s now plying his trade with Turkish outfit Caykur Rizespor.

Bolasie’s dramatic drop-off in form and fitness struggles have seen his market value plummet to just £1.35m, proving that Parish was right to cash in on the attacker when he did.

Man City fans slam Zinchenko

The new Champions League season has finally begun for Pep Guardiola’s side and it’s fair to say Manchester City enjoyed a scintillating start on Wednesday evening.

After coming so close last year, reaching the final whilst playing some devastating football at the top level, City are tasked with reaching those heights yet again but going one step further and winning a competition which has long eluded them.

It couldn’t have been a more entertaining opener to their 21/22 European campaign as the Sky Blues battered Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium – with nine goals and a red card to boot as City came away 6-3 victors.

Strikers from six different scorers in Nathan Ake, Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish, Joao Cancelo, Gabriel Jesus and a Nordi Mukiele own goal sent Guardiola’s side to the top of the group.

Former player Angelino, making his Eastlands return with Leipzig, was also dismissed after being shown a second yellow card.

However, while the attack enjoyed an amazing afternoon, the same cannot be said for City’s backline which conceded three soft goals.

One of the main culprits, Oleksandr Zinchenko, has been slammed on Twitter for his defensive display.

The Ukraine international was handed City’s lowest SofaScore rating on the night with a 6.0, winning only a third of his ground duels, being dribbled past once and losing the ball 10 times.

Here’s what Sky Blues had to say on the 24-year-old.
