What’s the talk?
According to The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell, the defender is closing in on an exit from the Glasgow giants to join a Premier League side.
He Tweeted: “Everton are in talks with Rangers to secure the signing of Nathan Patterson. Discussions have gone well so far and any deal will see Rangers receive a club record fee that will outstrip Alan Hutton’s move to Spurs in 2008.”
Nightmare
This devastating blow comes as a nightmare for Gio van Bronckhorst in both the short and long-term. Irrespective of the money involved, this deal will cause some serious issues for Rangers that will need to be resolved before the end of the month.
By selling Patterson, Rangers have lost left-back and right-back cover as well as the long-term successor to James Tavernier. The Scotland international is a right-back by trade but recently played on the left side whilst Borna Barisic was out, due to Calvin Bassey’s impressive form at centre-back meaning that he is no longer deputising when needed on the left-hand side.
This means that the Gers will be left without adequate cover in defence if they lose Barisic or Tavernier for any length of time. Fans will surely be fuming with this as it could have a serious impact on the title race or their efforts in Europe, should they fail to bring in a replacement before the end of January.
Whilst that highlights the impact this sale could have this season, the long-term problem it creates is what happens to the right-back position after Tavernier hangs up the boots. The ex-Newcastle man is now in his 30’s and there is no telling when his powers will begin to wane or whether or not he may want to move back down south of the border to finish his career in his home country.
Patterson, at the age of 20, appeared primed to take over his spot at right-back, but that potential is now being washed away by this news. This means that van Bronckhorst will need to dip into the market to find Tavernier’s successor, which could be helped by the record fee they are reportedly set to receive.
Therefore, this news comes as a nightmare for the Dutch head coach as it creates multiple problems in the here, now and the future.

Rashid Latif, the former Pakistan wicketkeeper and captain, had recommended in a report to the PCB to drop Kamran Akmal from international cricket, to give him time to correct a number of flaws.Latif, widely regarded as the best, pure gloveman to come out of Pakistan after Wasim Bari, worked for the PCB in a brief stint as a wicketkeeping coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) from June 2008. A number of the country’s top wicketkeepers attended, including Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed and Salman Ahmed, both of whom have often been touted as potential replacements.”I gave the board a report in which I recommended that Akmal not play international cricket for at least six months but they didn’t listen,” Latif told Cricinfo. “He had too many technical faults, had put on too much weight for a wicketkeeper of his size and wearing a helmet to spinners was really hampering him.”Akmal’s glovework has long become a source of worry for Pakistan. For a period over 2004-05, including the last trip to Australia, his keeping was widely lauded. But during 2006, in particular the tour to England where he continued playing with an injured finger, his form dipped alarmingly, and he dropped a number of chances over the next two years.His work became a little tidier last year, but he dropped four catches in the Sydney Test, including Michael Hussey three times off Danish Kaneria. Hussey went on to score a hundred, setting up a shock 36-run win for his side from a dire position.There are reports now that Sarfraz has been called up to the squad, though management in Australia is yet to confirm it. Sarfraz, who led Pakistan to an U-19 World Cup triumph, briefly replaced Akmal in ODIs during the 2008 Asia Cup. But Akmal’s batting – he has 11 international hundreds – has often saved him; he scored valuable runs on the recent tour to New Zealand, which resulted in Sarfraz, who was on tour as a back-up, being sent back to Pakistan.”The blunder was to send Sarfraz back,” Latif said. “I had recommended that at least try guys like Sarfraz and Salman Ahmed. He wears helmets to spinners which I think they shouldn’t because it messes up the eye-line.”And as far as the argument for his batting goes, in such Tests what help is the batting? He scores a hundred every six or seven innings. Outside Pakistan and the subcontinent his average is very low. If another guy comes and scores 30 or 40 in most innings, isn’t that better?”Pakistan appear reluctant to lose or even rest Akmal, however. Yousuf – and Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik before him – has enough faith in his batting to keep him in the side. Yousuf defended Akmal after the third day, when he had dropped Hussey thrice, and did so again in the aftermath of the loss.”It’s not easy to make such players,” Yousuf said. “If you drop him, his confidence is totally down and it will go further down. If you don’t want to play him again then it is understandable. But making such a player is not easy. He will get spoilt if he is dropped.”Yousuf conceded, however, that something might be done, though it is believed even he is unaware of the reports of Sarfraz’s impending arrival. “This is something to discuss after a few days really,” Yousuf said. “Kamran Akmal – okay if we say let’s not play him in Tests, but he will do well in ODIs and Twenty20s and come back again into Tests. And not everything is in my hands.”

بالإضافة إلى هذا الخيار أمام مانشستر يونايتد إلا أن هناك عقبة أخرى أمام برشلونة وهي رغبة يوفنتوس وميلان في ضم دالوت بالمجان أيضًا نظرًا لعمره (23 عامًا) وإمكانياته الفنية.
في الصيف الماضي، كانت هناك مفاوضات بين برشلونة ومانشستر يونايتد لإبرام صفقة تبادلية ولكن في النهاية فشلت لأن مدرب الفريق الإنجليزي، إريك تين هاج، رفض التنازل عن دالوت في مقابل ضم، سيرجينيو ديست، الذي رحل لميلان بعد ذلك.

E o técnico do São Paulo, embora ressalte a importância do jogo deste domingo, contra o Bahia, no Morumbi, já fala em 2018, tratando das laterais: não quer perder Júnior Tavares para o Corinthians e admite negociação aberta para contratar o lateral-direito Victor Ferraz, do Santos.
– É um grande nome e foi uma indicação, mas debatemos muitos nomes. É uma possibilidade. A diretoria do São Paulo fez um contato com a diretoria do Santos. Se acontecer, vai ser importante. Vamos priorizar os que estão aqui – disse o técnico, controlando palavras a respeito de reforços.

O Lugano é um desses jogadores que, ao longo da própria carreira, vai preparando o terreno para uma nova posição. É natural que neste momento ainda ele não deva ter amadurecido a ideia. Fico muito satisfeito pela nossa melhora na competição, jogando futebol, não com preocupações defensivas. O São Paulo propôs jogos e tentou ir para cima dos seus adversários. Fico satisfeito por aquilo que eu presenciei em relação a um crescimento natural da equipe. Acima de tudo, se expondo e buscando os resultados. Acredito que é isso que faz uma equipe alcançar um nível aceitável de rendimento.

O Reinaldo volta e o Maidana ainda não tem nada definido. O São Paulo precisa de alguns nomes. É natural que eu continue trabalhando para encontrar alternativas. Quero que o clube tenha condições de manter os salários em dia e dar as condições para o trabalho. Preciso valorizar o que temos aqui dentro e a base, pois ela é a vida de um clube de futebol.

It wasn’t quite a Glenn McGrath 5-0 Ashes whitewash prediction but Chris Gayle still raised some eyebrows when he tipped a West Indian thrashing of Australia in the one-day series starting in Melbourne on Sunday. Australia have not lost a match in any format all summer but Gayle dismissed the notion that it would be intimidating to take on Ricky Ponting’s men in a five-game series.”It’s not, to be honest,” Gayle said. “We’re going to beat them 4-1. Not to worry.”Little does worry Gayle. Not the fact that Australia have won 20 of their past 24 one-day internationals, nor that West Indies lost 5-0 at home to Australia 18 months ago and haven’t beaten them in an ODI since 2006, nor even that the visitors are missing eight players including several who would be in their best XI.The loss of key men like Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Dwayne Bravo to injuries will increase the reliance on Gayle. But it will also provide a chance for the next rung of players such as Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Smith, who have starred in domestic Twenty20 competitions without yet showing their best for West Indies, to lock in their long-term futures.”They definitely can put pressure on us [senior players],” Gayle said. “They are the future. It couldn’t be a better opportunity for them, the likes of Pollard, Dwayne Smith coming back and [Lendl] Simmons and those guys. Those guys can actually step up. We expect things from these guys to play a big part to win the series.”Australia are playing some good cricket. They will be difficult to beat. It’s an inexperienced team at this point in time but at the same time it’s a lovely opportunity for the guys to step up against Australia and make a name for themself and then look forward to their career.”He said Smith and Pollard, who enjoyed productive stints in the Big Bash over the past month, appeared to be in impressive form in the nets leading in to the series. However, he warned them against over-confidence – an ironic choice of words after his series prediction – flowing from their Twenty20 successes.Gayle himself deserves to be full of belief considering his Player-of-the-Series effort in the Tests before Christmas and his wonderful 146 within 29 overs in the tour match against the Prime Minister’s XI. The Australians know the importance of removing Gayle early after he plundered 346 at 69.20 in the Test series.”He’s a dynamic player at the top of the order and generally if your openers get you off to a good start it makes things a fair bit easier for the middle order in all forms of the game,” the captain Ricky Ponting said. “He started the tour pretty well down in Canberra.”He’s a very dangerous one-day player. He had a good Test series against us here as well and scored quickly. One thing we did just touch on then with our team meeting was making sure that our plans to him are spot on. They’ve got him and probably Pollard in the middle order that are very, very dangerous, and the other guys will try and work in around those guys.”But while Ponting was wary of Gayle, he refused to take the bait on making a series prediction of his own. With a squad that hasn’t been beaten all summer, he hopes to simply let his men do the talking on the field.”I don’t really care what he’s got to say as far as results go,” Ponting said. “All I can say is that I’m pretty confident this group can keep improving.”
Leeds United are interested in signing young Rangers left-back James Maxwell, according to a fresh transfer rumour which has emerged.
The Lowdown: Maxwell out on loan
The 20-year-old was not deemed a key figure for the Gers at the start of the season, instead being sent out on loan to Scottish Championship side Ayr United. Maxwell has made 13 league starts for the Honest Men as he picks up some invaluable experience before eventually returning to Ibrox.
However, with Borna Borisic the undisputed first-choice left-back at Rangers, it could be that the youngster eyes up a move elsewhere in the coming weeks and months.

According to The Daily Record, Leeds are currently monitoring Maxwell, with Scottish duo Partick Thistle and Dunfermline also mentioned as potential suitors.

The Verdict: Good backup for Firpo
While Maxwell probably wouldn’t come in as a key player for Leeds, he is someone who would likely be viewed as a long-term signing and a backup option to Junior Firpo at Elland Road.
The Scot can also play in midfield, with the report mentioning his versatility while out on loan, which could be seen as an bonus for Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine can also take heart from the testimony of Maxwell’s former Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston, who called the Ibrox talent “a really good young kid”.
However, we mustn’t forget that Leif Davis remains a young future left-back option, with the 22-year-old currently on loan at Bournemouth, so a lot could depend on whether Bielsa thinks he needs both him and Maxwell in his squad.

Ex-atacante de Guarani e Náutico, Silas Brindeiro segue lutando pela vida. Com leucemia e sem cura possível no Brasil, no começo de agosto ele deu entrevista cheia de emoção ao LANCE!, disse que precisava de R$ 925 mil para se tratar nos Estados Unidos e tocou a internet. Agora, passados quase quatro meses, o centroavante de 30 anos recebeu um presente de Natal antecipado. Após diversos apelos a hospitais norte-americanos, o jogador conseguiu o tratamento que precisava de forma gratuita no estado deMaryland. Ele embarcou para os EUA, juntamente com a esposa, na última terça-feira.
Silas vinha tentando conter sua doença com quimioterapia nohospital Santa Helena, em Brasília (DF). No entanto, a medula do jogador já não dava mais grandes respostas e o tratamento convencional era praticamente ineficaz. Em agosto, o jogador tinha7% de blastos no sangue. Agora, o quadro está em 36% – situações acima de 20% já são consideradas de extrema gravidade. A verba necessária para o centroavante se tratar nos EUA também estava longe de ser obtida. Após pedidos de doações, ele conseguiu a quantia de R$ 230 mil – que apesar de volumosa, era apenas 25% do total necessário. A guerra parecia perdida, mas no fim de agosto o tratamento que pode curar Silas deixou de ficar restrito a só dois hospitais americanos e passou a ser disponibilizado em mais 40. Foi a deixa para ele sair mandando e-mails para diversos destes 40 hospitais. Felizmente, o hospital deMaryland acabou sensibilizado.
– Agora estou vivendo outra atmosfera. Vocêcomeça pensa que está chegando a vitória. O ânimo muda sabendo que farei o tratamento que preciso, oCAR-T cells, sabendo que há uma saída. AFDA (Food and Drug Administration), que é o órgão responsável pela saúde nos Estados Unidos, aprovou em 30 de agosto a ampliação do tratamento para mais 40 hospitais. Foi coisa de Deus. Diante desse fato novo, eu, meu médico e minha prima, que mora nos Estados Unidos, enviamos e-mails para diversos hospitais, pedindo o tratamento com gratuidade. Ohospital de Maryland se interessou pelo meu caso, pelo fato de a doença estar avançada. Há três semanas recebi a notícia de que eles me aceitariam. Viram que meu caso era sério, se sensibilizaram, e vão fazer um estudo clínico em mim, cedendo o tratamento com gratuidade – disse Silas.
O tratamento doCAR-T cells deverá zerar os 36% de células doentes. O processo vai durar entre seis e oito meses. Só depois disso Silas poderá receber uma nova medula.Ele entrou na fila para receber doação em fevereiro de 2015 e, após angustiante espera, conseguiu um doador em julho – quando a quimioterapia já não fazia mais efeito e 7% de suas células já estavam doentes.
– Aprincípio, vou fazer duas semanas de exames e depois receber o tratamento propriamente dito com o CAR-T cells. O hospital disse que em três meses devo ter uma direção sobre o meu tratamento, mas não há uma data fixa para ficar zerado. Ficando, voltarei ao Brasil para fazer o transplante de medula. O doador só está esperando eu ficar zerado para fazer o transplante – detalhou.
Silas também falou sobre os R$ 230 mil que arrecadou. Ele afirmou que ainda utilizará o dinheiro para a sua cura, justificando que o transplante de medula será pago e que o hospital deMaryland deu apenas o tratamento do CAR-T cells, não arcando com passagens, hospedagem e remédios fora do hospital:
– Deixo aqui meu esclarecimento às pessoas que me ajudaram. O valor de R$ 230 mil vai me ajudar muito no andamento do tratamento. Faço questão de revelar esse valor, como satisfação às pessoas que me ajudaram. A quantia será usada para minhas despesas até a cura, para eu me manter nos Estados Unidos, voltar ao Brasil e pagar meu transplante de medula. O tratamento será longo e eu estou sem clube, sem salário – comentou Silas, que mesmo depois do transplante precisará voltar àMaryland para revisões de três em três meses.
Silas recebeu doações de diversos atletas. Fernando Prass mobilizou o elenco do Palmeiras, que conseguiu levantar uma quantia – de valor não divulgado.
– Fernando Prass entrou em contato comigo, pessoal dos meus tempos no Guarani… Eles contribuíram bastante, deram força. Alguns clubes fizeram contato comigo também. O Neto, da Chapecoense, ajudou nas redes sociais, compartilhando o link da matéria de agosto. Depois, até jogadores da Seleção fizeram vídeo pedindo doações. Serei eternamente grato. Agradeço muito a quem contribuiu e tirou um tempinho para compartilhar a matéria. Reforço que o dinheiro será usado para me ajudar na cura – destacou o atacante, confiante de que os próximos meses irão selar o seu triunfo contra a leucemia:
