Liverpool fans far from happy with Joe Gomez exit rumours

Liverpool fans on Twitter aren’t best pleased with the latest reports surrounding the future of Joe Gomez.

90min have reported that the centre-back could be on his way out of Anfield after becoming frustrated with his lack of playing time.

It’s difficult to argue with his standpoint as recently he’s appeared in just two Premier League games for the Reds, with Joel Matip establishing himself as Jurgen Klopp’s preferred choice alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Supporters on social media are hoping that his current frustrations don’t lead to his exit in the near future.

Gomez is a fantastic young centre-back, and aged just 22 he’s already been capped seven times by England.

The former Charlton man could be the future of Liverpool’s defence, but if these reports are to be believed that won’t be the case.

Understandably, fans are annoyed at the prospect of losing such a talented defender.

Here’s what Liverpool supporters have been saying on Twitter…

Everton fans debate who should start against West Ham United

Everton are in desperate need of three points when they host West Ham United next weekend, with Marco Silva’s men sitting in the relegation zone on just seven points from their eight Premier League games to date.

The fans thus far have had to endure torrid performances by some of the players, as the Toffees have only scored six top flight goals until now and conceded an eye-watering 13 times.

Even the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison, who scored a combined 26 league goals last season, have struggled to find form this campaign, with just three direct contributions to a goal between them this year (2 goals, 1 assist).

Elsewhere, Silva has been reluctant to change the dynamics of this failing side, playing centre-backs Yerry Mina and Michael Keane in every minute of league action – albeit he doesn’t have a great deal of depth in that area – whilst only starting new signings Alex Iwobi three times and Moise Kean just twice in the league.

Understandably, the Blues fans are calling for changes with some fans demanding Tom Davies starts after seeing just 20 minutes of league action, with some believing it’s time for academy star Anthony Gordon – the teenager has six goals in six games so far.

Charlton fans react after seeing Chris Powell as part of the England coaching set-up

Some Charlton fans have taken to Twitter to react after spotting Chris Powell as part of the England coaching set-up.

The former Charlton and Huddersfield manager became part of Gareth Southgate’s staff at the start of September as part of the BAME programme, a move designed by the FA to “solve the challenge of under-representation”.

Powell managed the Addicks from 2011-2014, following a playing career that saw him make 214 appearances for the south Londoners.

The 50-year-old was appointed at The Valley in 2011 and went on to guide Charlton out of League One and into the Championship as champions, although he was later sacked by Roland Duchatelet just days after reportedly agreeing a new contract with the club.

After seeing their former boss on the bench for England as part of Southgate’s staff, a number of Charlton fans took to Twitter to react.

Let’s take a look at what some of the Addicks supporters said…

Arsenal fans want Bukayo Saka to start against Aston Villa

[ad_pod ]What a fantastic night it was on Thursday for Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.Against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League, the 18-year-old put in a wonderful display and scored his first-ever goal for the Gunners. He also provided two assists as Unai Emery’s side coasted to a 3-0 victory at the Commerzbank Arena. The England Under-19 international clearly has a big future ahead of him, and he is already a well-known name to some Arsenal fans, having featured for the north London outfit as early as last season. Thanks to his impressive display against the Bundesliga side, there appears to be a consensus among the club’s supporters that he should start against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.Indeed, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been forced to play on the left flank, with Reiss Nelson benched against both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Exclusive: Sam Allardyce would have been a good fit for Everton, says John Hartson

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

After a poor start to the season there has been a lot of discussion about the future of Marco Silva, and John Hartson exclusively told Football FanCast that Everton should have stuck with a former manager.

The Welshman points to Sam Allardyce as a figure who did a lot to help the club during his short period in charge.

To his credit, whilst his style of play may not have won him many fans amongst the Goodison Park faithful, he granted game time on a more regular basis to young players like Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Dominic Calvert-Lewin – all of whom remain in the first-team.

Hartson also acknowledges the circumstances in which the former England manager took over, suggesting it was a difficult environment in which to manage due to the actions of his predecessor.

Speaking exclusively to FFC, he said: “Koeman totally, totally messed things up there. He spent an awful lot of money but he had a disaster.

“Then Sam Allardyce came in and I think he galvanised the club. I know people don’t particularly like watching Sam’s brand of football, but he guarantees you results and I actually think Allardyce would have been a good fit for Everton.”

The stats support his assessment. Despite taking over a side struggling for points and lurking just above the relegation zone, Allardyce lost just nine games in 26, and given Marco Silva hasn’t had much success, it may have been the wrong decision to make a change.

Silva is now coming under a lot of scrutiny himself but it is likely another managerial change could destabilise the club further, and it is a concern of Hartson’s that “Everton have been through three or four managers in the same amount of years”.

He isn’t the only person to hold that view, with former Toffee Phil Jagielka also backing his former manager amid calls from certain sections of the Everton support for the Portuguese boss to go.

“There is no point chopping and changing,” said Jagielka, who is well aware of the unrest that can arise from switching managers having played through five different managers in his last six years on Merseyside.

Time will tell whether Silva can unify what appears to be a divided fanbase.

Everton fans react to Gerard Deulofeu’s treble for Watford

[ad_pod ]

Gerard Deulofeu scored a hat-trick in Watford’s 5-1 win over Cardiff City in the Premier League on Friday night.

The Spaniard opened the scoring in the 18th minute, before netting twice in the space of two second-half minutes to secure the match ball.

Deulofeu now has six Premier League goals for the season and looks back to his best after missing the start of the campaign with a foot injury.

The Everton fans were closely watching what has happening in Wales and many took to social media to comment on the attacker’s treble.

Indeed, the now 24-year-old turned out for the Toffees during the 2013-14 season on loan, before joining the club on a permanent deal in July 2015.

In this era of ‘big 6’ dominance, has finishing 7th become as good as winning a trophy? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…

Deulofeu scored eight times and registered 19 assists in 75 games for the Merseyside outfit and it seems that the club’s supporters still miss him.

Indeed, a selection of the Twitter reaction to his hat-trick can be seen below:

Ex-Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge posts image from Trabzonspor debut

After spending six years at Liverpool it must be quite strange for Reds supporters to see Sturridge in another kit.

For some fans it could be quite emotional seeing the attacker playing for another club as it serves as a reminder of the potential he once showed but never fulfilled.

This is a man who netted 21 Premier League goals in a single season five years ago, but despite only just turning 30, his career seems to be fizzling out.

He played only 20 minutes for his new side on his debut, as he still needs to get fully match fit after joining the club towards the end of August.

The Times share Morata to Spurs update

According to reliable reporter Gary Jacob of The Times, a transfer update has come out of Tottenham Hotspur involving Atletico Madrid striker and Juventus loanee Alvaro Morata.

The Lowdown: Spurs linked…

As manager Antonio Conte reportedly seeks a new forward addition before this window’s closure, with Alasdair Gold revealing it is one of the Italian’s four priorities, links have emerged to ex-Chelsea striker Morata.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news-2/” title=”Tottenham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, a report out of Spain from El Partidazo de COPE recently claimed that both the Lilywhite and Newcastle United are in the picture to sign him before January 31 – with the overseas source even believing there is an offer from managing director Fabio Paratici.

Eligible striker targets are waring thin at Tottenham given long-time target Dusan Vlahovic has now sealed a blockbuster move to Juventus, while links to other names have been fairly scarce.

The Latest: Jacob makes Morata claim…

In what could be an opportunity for Spurs and Paratici, they have apparently been ‘offered’ the chance to sign Conte’s former star in a late window development.

Indeed, according to Jacob, writing for The Times, the Spain international has reportedly been placed on the table and Tottenham could sign him on a loan deal.

The Verdict: Take it?

The 29-year-old has endured a mixed senior career to say the least, showing signs of real promise last season during his first year on loan in Turin.

Morata racked up 11 Serie A goals and 11 assists under ex-boss Andrea Pirlo over 2020/2021 – not even including his six goals in eight Champions League appearances that year.

However, at Chelsea, the Spaniard’s poor final season return of five in 16 Premier League outings saw him part company for Atletico.

He was perhaps most in-demand when playing for Real Madrid at the end of the 2016/2017 season – with his former club even once placing a £90 million price tag on his head (The Sun).

Morata, clearly, comes as somewhat of a mixed bag.

However, on loan, it could be a gamble worth taking given Spurs are arguably in dire need of an alternative to Harry Kane.

Leeds still keen on Brennan Johnson move

After the closure of the January transfer window, Leeds United are still showing an interest in signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Brennan Johnson, according to sources at the Championship club.

The Lowdown: Johnson impressing for Forest

The 20-year-old has emerged as arguably one of the best young players in the Championship, catching the eye with his performances for Forest.

Johnson has scored seven goals and registered six assists in 29 league appearances this season, even being hailed by David Beckham, who lauded his ‘great performance’ in the FA Cup win over Arsenal last month.

A fresh update regarding the youngster’s future has now emerged – one in which Leeds get a key mention.

The Latest: Leeds eyeing up move

According to Forest sources at Football Insider, the Reds are ‘preparing’ contract talks with Johnson in order to tie him down to a new deal, following recent interest from Brentford.

It is also stated that he is being ‘closely monitored’ by Leeds and other Premier League clubs, however, with a summer exit potentially on the cards.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-33/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Solid squad addition

Johnson is a hugely exciting prospect so it is only natural that the Whites are eyeing him up and he could be a great signing if a deal materialised.

The Welshman is someone who would come in as a squad player to begin with but hopefully mature into a key man, bringing more guile to the midfield. He averages 1.2 key passes and dribbles apiece in the league this season.

Johnson already has seven caps to his name for Wales, further outlining his pedigree, and the fact that he can play centrally and in both wide areas is an extra bonus for Marcelo Bielsa.

Everton eyeing Valentin Castellanos

Everton are plotting a move for New York City striker Valentin Castellanos as they look to bolster their attacking options in the January transfer window.

What’s the story?

According to The Sun, the 23-year-old is one of the Toffees’ attacking targets for this month, with uncertainty surrounding the futures of star forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

The duo have scored a combined six goals in 15 appearances during what has been an injury-hit campaign for both of them. However, The Sun have reported that the Merseyside club could be forced to sacrifice at least one of the two players.

Alongside Alexis Sanchez, Castellanos is one of Everton’s preferences for a replacement after scoring 23 goals and registering nine assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for New York City last season on their way to winning their first MLS Cup.

The 23-year-old has plenty of potential and was praised by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola last month, who said: “I think he is a guy who will do the next step in Europe.

“What I saw when the scouting department talked to me, I know he’s a quality player and ready to make the next step to Europe and we will see where.”

Everton should swoop for Castellanos

At 23 years of age, Castellanos is still nowhere near his prime and should only improve; this would also means that his value will escalate further.

Everton haven’t particularly struggled in the final third this season, scoring 23 goals in 18 Premier League matches. However, their injury record this term has been a major issue, especially in attack, with the likes of Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Andros Townsend all facing lengthy spells on the sidelines.

There may be questions regarding the level at which the Argentine striker has been prolific, although 32 goal contributions in 36 games at 23 years of age is a very impressive return.

The Toffees could do with alternatives in attack, and swooping for a young player with bags of potential and an excellent scoring record could prove to be a shrewd long-term move.
