Everton Could Sign Their Own Gakpo In "Electric" £26m Ace

Everton have endured a torrid start to the Premier League season, and manager Sean Dyche is now hoping to kickstart his side's campaign with a promising end to the transfer window.

The Merseyside outfit only just avoided relegation last term, winning against Bournemouth on the final day, and have been busy this summer in beefing up the ranks, with four new faces arriving and centre-forward Beto expected to complete a £30m move.

The club must not rest on their laurels if they are to cast aside the dreadful start to the year that has yielded no points or goals from the opening three matches, and might've now identified a talent to spark life back into the attack.

Will Everton sign another attacker?

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Toffees are firmly in contention to sign PSV Eindhoven winger this week, though will have to bypass Paris Saint-Germain, who have already lodged a €25m (£21m) offer.

Read the latest Everton transfer news HERE…

The Eredivisie outfit are reluctant to grant the departure of their rising star, however, and have set a valuation in excess of €30m (£26m) for the Belgian, who is also on Brentford and Burnley's radar.

How good is Johan Bakayoko?

Having been described as a "wonderful talent" with a "fantastic left foot" by scout Jacek Kulig, the rising talent has earned four assists from his first six matches this year, including a brace against Rangers in the Champions League qualifying round first-leg.

PSV Eindhoven'sJohanBakayokoin action with FC Zurich's Karol Mets

In fact, during that display Bakayoko chalked up a match-best Sofascore rating of 8.6, taking four shots, succeeding with 80% (4/5) of his dribbles, making five key passes, winning seven of his 11 duels and taking 65 touches, in the thick of the action with an all-encompassing display.

Praised as one of his club's "heroes" by Kulig for that momentous performance, it's clear that Everton would secure a bona fide coup by sealing Bakayoko's signature, and it could prove to be a move to emulate city rivals Liverpool's recent foray into the Eindhoven transfer pool, having signed Cody Gakpo for £35m in January.

The Dutchman joined the Anfield side at last year's midpoint after starring at the 2022 World Cup, scoring three goals, and thriving in the Eredivisie, posting 13 goals and 17 assists from 24 outings across all competitions.

The 24-year-old is not stylistically comparable to Bakayoko, playing in a similar false-nine role to Roberto Firmino for Liverpool, whereas the PSV starlet utilises his "electric" pace – as said by Kulig – to drive through the enemy lines and wreak havoc at will.

But despite this, the 20-year-old brings a similar level of flair and ingenuity to his craft, and it could prove to be a masterful signing to revitalise the Toffees attack.

The "talented winger", as has been noted by Fabrizio Romano, ranks among the top 7% of attacking midfielders and wingers across the eight leagues most comparable to the Eredivisie for assists, the top 11% for shot-creating actions, the top 1% for progressive carries and the top 5% for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref.

It's clear that he could spark life into an Everton team bereft of inspiration right now, and if Dyche can convince the four-cap international to catalyse the Goodison Park side's season, he could rival Gakpo as PSV's brightest talent to have made the move to English shores of late.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: Head-to-head, key stats & more

Liverpool vs Aston Villa is one of the most-played fixtures in English football history. In fact, Villa have only ever faced Everton more, while the Reds have come up against just Everton, Arsenal and Manchester United on more occasions.

This, then, is a fixture with a lot of history behind it and dates all the way back to 1894. In other words, we're talking about well over a century of football, across four competitions.

Of course, they're meeting twice a season in the Premier League these days and will face each other for the 202nd time on September 3rd. What can we all expect, though? We've taken a dip into the history to find that out.

So, we at Football FanCast have broken down all the stats and history between the two clubs.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: What's their head-to-head record?

There's an enormous sample size here as the two prepare to face for the 202nd time. In other words, there are 201 matches to go on and few clubs can boast that number against anyone in world football.

But when you first met in 1894 and have come up against each other nearly every year since, there's going to be a lot of football. Really, the only times they haven't played is when one of the two clubs were in the Second Division, usually Villa.

Though, they do have a couple of games against each other in the second tier – both were down there in the 1959/60 season.

In 201 meetings, then, Liverpool have won just over half of them with 101. Villa have 59 in response, narrowly beating out the 41 draws. It's a fixture the Reds dominate, but you can say that for pretty much every fixture they have.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: What's their record at Anfield?

Thanks to cup ties, the home and away fixtures aren't actually balanced here – fewer matches have taken place at Anfield than at Villa Park. 99 in total, meaning we're coming up on the 100th meeting on Merseyside between Liverpool and Villa.

And as with every other Anfield fixture, the Reds have a dominant record. They've won just shy of two thirds of the game with 62, while Villa have only ever won on 17 occasions. 20 have finished in draws.

It's a record reflected in the goal tally, too. Liverpool average well over two per match against Villa, having scored 214. The visitors just about make it to one per game with 103 in those 99 fixtures.

When this one takes place at Anfield, then, Liverpool find themselves feeling confident.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: What's their record at Villa Park?

Few teams have positive records against Liverpool, even on their home ground – that's a result of the Reds' incredible dominance across the 70s and 80s. Villa, though, do have a positive home record, just about.

Exactly 100 of the meetings have been there. Villa haven't quite made it to a 50 per cent win-rate, though, at 41 wins. Importantly, that still beats out Liverpool's 38 wins at Villa Park. 21 have been draws, so the hosts don't usually win this one but historically, they're more likely to get the points than the Reds.

As for goals, it's certainly far closer than it is at Anfield. Villa have 179 goals at Villa Park against Liverpool, while the latter boast 141.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: What's their record on neutral grounds?

There have been two meetings between the pair on neutral ground over the years, with both coming in FA Cup semi-finals. In fact, one of the strangest things about this fixture is that they've somehow never met in a final.

The first semi-final happened in 1996. Liverpool ran riot in that one, though, crushing Villa 3-0 at Old Trafford thanks to a Robbie Fowler brace and a Jason McAteer strike. The Reds would lose the final to Manchester United 1-0 (yes, the cream-suit final).

They'd face one another again 19 years later in the same round of the same competition, this time at Wembley. Villa got their revenge, too, as Christian Benteke (who would join Liverpool that summer) and Fabian Delph scored after Philippe Coutinho had put his side in front. However, they'd also lose their final – 4-0 to Arsenal.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: What's their Premier League record?

Of course, the vast majority of the relevant history here came in the Premier League. Liverpool have been ever-present since the start of the competition, while Villa did spend three seasons in the Championship within the last decade. On the whole, though, this has typically been a regular fixture in the top flight since 1992.

Thus there have been plenty of meetings under the Premier League banner. 56 in total, and it won't be a shock to learn that Liverpool have won the majority of those.

The Reds boast 32 Premier League wins over Villa, so they've actually upped their dominance in the fixture since 1992. Villa, in response, have just 13 wins to 11 draws.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: Which team has the most goals?

Given the records we've spoken of, you won't be shocked to learn that Liverpool do have more goals than Villa in this fixture's history. It would be quite strange if they didn't – not all of Villa's wins were 7-2, unfortunately. Just one.

The goal tally is quite close, though. Liverpool have 359 across the 201 games, so not particularly close to averaging two per game but far above one. Villa 284 goals – so again, well over one without being anywhere near two.

In just the Premier League, it's a similar story of neither averaging two but both clearing the one-per-game mark. But they are at completely opposite ends of that spectrum.

Liverpool have 97 goals in 56 Premier League games, Villa have 58. Two scoreless games for the latter, then, would see them fall to exactly one per game. The Reds know that a few high-scoring fixtures would put them over two.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: What's Liverpool's biggest win?

Liverpool's biggest-ever win in this fixture is the largest by either side and is actually still relatively fresh in the memory, having come in 2016. They crushed the soon-to-be-relegated Villa side 6-0 away from home.

This was Jurgen Klopp's first season in charge at Liverpool, so he didn't quite have his own squad yet. It means that the list of scorers is quite bizarre in hindsight – especially as there were six of them.

Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring, with James Milner adding a second before half-time. Emre Can then scored after the break, with Divock Origi adding a fourth just after the hour mark. Where it gets weird is that Nathaniel Clyne scored the fifth – his only Premier League goal with Liverpool. The sixth? Kolo Touré, with what was also his only Premier League goal with Liverpool.

A big win from what is a mismatched Liverpool side, in hindsight. Still, not the maddest meetings we've seen.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: What's Aston Villa's biggest win?

We know what game jumped to your mind there and we'll get to that in a minute. But Villa's 'biggest win' isn't a straightforward one as the 7-2 you're definitely thinking of isn't actually all that unique.

Villa have beaten Liverpool by five goals before that. In fact, they beat Liverpool by five goals the year before – it was just essentially a Reds' youth team. But that's not even the only time that Villa have won by five. They've done it seven times. Now, five of these occurred before 1932, admittedly, and two were in the 19th century.

In fact, Villa beat Liverpool 5-0 in the second-ever meeting between the two clubs in 1894. They beat them 5-0 again in 1899, again in 1905. Once more in 1912. The next came in 1932 and then there is admittedly quite a big gap from that one until 2019.

But it's in 2020 that the most notable win happened – and we'll just devote a little more time to it.

Did Aston Villa really beat Liverpool 7-2?

Yes, and it's even crazier than it first seems. Not only were Liverpool favourites going into the match but they were the reigning champions. The 2019/20 campaign was a sensational one for them, with the title wrapped up by early January and, quite incredibly, they'd only dropped two points by February 29th.

But wait! It gets madder. Villa weren't exactly a side challenging the big guns, either. They'd avoided relegation by a single point in that season, meaning they were massive underdogs for the early-season clash at Villa Park. A draw would have been a great result.

Ollie Watkins gave them the lead on four minutes, however, and he doubled it on 22. Mohamed Salah replied with one on 33 minutes but John McGinn and Watkins had it at 4-1 within 10 minutes.

The second half was similar. Ross Barkley made it five on 55 minutes, but Salah scored again to pull one back right on the hour mark. Within 15 minutes, though, Jack Grealish had scored twice for 7-2 and it would remain that way until the end.

Given Liverpool's status, Villa's struggles the previous year, and just the fact that they hadn't beaten the Reds by more than two goals in the league since 1976, this was one of the most bizarre results in English football history.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: What happened in 2022/23?

The Reds were the most successful of the two last season, winning 3-1 at Villa Park before drawing 1-1 at Anfield. Though, it's worth mentioning that these were two very different Villa sides.

The side that played in December was essentially a relegation side that stood little chance against Jurgen Klopp's team. The one in May was one of the most in-form Premier League sides, one that had shot up the table to finish in the European places.

And so even if Liverpool did have the better record, only the latter game is a fair reflection of what we'll see in September.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: What is the recent history?

Very Liverpool-heavy. In fact, the most recent game between the two was the first time Villa avoided defeat in this fixture since the 7-2 win in 2020. Before that, the Reds had won five on the bounce.

So for those who need help with counting, that makes it five Liverpool wins and one draw across the last six fixtures. To make things look a little worse for Villa, that 7-2 is such an anomaly that it's their only Premier League win over the Reds since 2014. They only have five since 2001.

No matter what you count as 'recent' history, then, it reflects best on Liverpool. The glimmer of hope for Villa, however, is that their most recent fixture suggested there isn't really all that much between the two teams. So perhaps the most recent history can be seen as positive.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa: When is it?

Liverpool host Aston Villa on Sunday, September 3rd at 14:00 UK time. It'll be meeting no.202 between the two historic clubs and promises to tell us something about their respective seasons.

The Reds want to bounce back after a disappointing campaign last time out, of course. Beating Villa, given how good they were over the course of 2023, would be a sign that they are bouncing back.

But Unai Emery's side will see this one as a chance to prove last season wasn't merely a great run of form. Beat Liverpool and they'll be looking high up the table – it's the perfect way to undo the opening-day disaster against Newcastle United.

Bukayo Saka: Goals record & head-to-head stats vs Tottenham

Arsenal host Tottenham Hotspur on September 24th for what's always one of the biggest and best games of the Premier League season. It's a fixture that carries far more than just three points, after all.

This is one that the two teams judge themselves on and, as a result, it's one in which players can really make a name for themselves. And, one player who could do just that is Bukayo Saka.

We at Football FanCast thought we'd take a trip through his brief career to see exactly how he's previously fared in this north London derby.

What is Bukayo Saka's goals record vs Tottenham?

Saka is still only 21, of course, and has only been a first-team player at Arsenal for three-and-half seasons now. Still, he's managed to pick up seven appearances in the North London derby in that time – six of which were starts.

But the player's goal record isn't exactly one to shout about. He's managed a solitary goal across those seven games, coming at home in late 2021. Arsenal would win the game 3-1, mind.

What is Bukayo Saka's assists record vs Tottenham?

Saka's assist record is better than his goal record, though. He's created two across seven games, with the most recent coming in the 2-0 win at Spurs last season.

The other actually came in the same game as his goal. A goal and assist in a 3-1 North London derby win? It's comfortably his most impressive performance against Tottenham to date.

What is Bukayo Saka's head-to-head record vs Tottenham?

It's a mixed bag, really. Saka does have a positive record against Spurs but only just. He's won four of his seven games, losing the other three.

So you can seemingly expect a winner when the two teams meet in September. There hasn't been a draw in this one for a few years now.

But it is worth mentioning that Saka lost his first two North London derbies, the first of which he only played 20 minutes as a left-back. His record since those opening two reads four wins, one defeat – so he's certainly getting the better of Tottenham of late.

What is Bukayo Saka's record at home vs Tottenham?

Saka is yet to fail against Spurs at the Emirates, winning all three games against the arch rivals. 2-1 and 3-1 wins in 2021 came before a 3-1 win last season – you can't do much better.

The first of those 3-1 wins saw Saka score and assist, too, meaning he's very capable of delivering a big game at home in the derby. Arsenal will certainly hope he's able to this time around.

What is Bukayo Saka's record away at Tottenham?

Last season saw Saka break his duck at Tottenham on the fourth attempt. A 2-0 win – in which the player registered an assist – was the first time Saka went there and didn't lose.

Given he's played regularly since breaking into the first-team, it also meant this was the first time in years that Arsenal as a team won at Tottenham. It was a statement win that showed just how far their fortunes differed last season. Spurs went backwards, while the Gunners challenged for the title.

Who has Bukayo Saka scored against the most?

Saka's poor record against Spurs would suggest he's not one for the bigger games, but that's certainly not the case. Manchester United are the opponents against which he's scored the most – three goals in seven games.

They've all come in Saka's last three games against the Red Devils, too. He got one in a 3-1 win in early 2022 before scoring home and away last season.

Though, it's worth mentioning that the most goals Saka has against any opponent since reaching adult level is technically Spurs. He's got five against their Under 18 side – but we're not really sure we should count that.

Who does Bukayo Saka have the most goal contributions against?

Bukayo Saka for Arsenal

Saka's goal contribution high is five and he's managed that against three different Premier League sides. Impressively, two of those are Manchester United and Liverpool.

He's bagged three goals and two assists against the Red Devils. It's the reverse against Liverpool – two goals, three assists. The latter are also the opponent against whom he's played the most.

Southampton are the other side with five against them. Saka's record matches his one against the Reds.

How many goals does Bukayo Saka have in September?

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka celebrates scoring a goal.

Saka has managed to score four times in the month of September – with some notable strikes, too. His first came in the Europa League back in 2019 as he made it 2-0 away at Eintracht Frankfurt.

After that came a goal for England in 2021. Saka scored to make it 4-0 against Andorra in a World Cup qualifier. He then scored later that same month against Spurs.

His fourth was last season as Saka equalised for Arsenal at Old Trafford.

What is Bukayo Saka's overall Arsenal goal record?

bukayo-saka-arsenal-exhausted-newcastle-united-arteta-rest

Saka, at only 21, has already played 182 competitive games for Arsenal. There will be many, many more to come as he just continues to get better as a player.

His record, as you'd expect from a young player, is impressive without being spectacular. Saka has 39 goals in those 182 games, coming in four separate competitions.

What is Bukayo Saka's Premier League goal record?

The vast majority of Saka's goals have come in the Premier League, of course. He's scored 32 of his 39 there, across 137 games.

It's a record of a goal every four or five games, then. It doesn't sound great but again, the stats include some very formative years for the Arsenal man.

The only other competition where Saka has more than a solitary goal is the Europa League. He's managed five there, across 25 appearances. Of course, he'll step up and make his Champions League debut this season.

What is Bukayo Saka's assist record?

Saka has actually assisted more goals than he's scored in his career. He's created 40 to the 38 he's scored, again coming in 179 professional appearances.

Though, Saka does have more goals than assists in the Premier League. There have 'only' been 27 assists in the top flight, compared to his 31 goals. The swing comes in other competitions.

For instance, Saka has nine Europa League assists in his 25 appearances, compared to just five goals. His two FA Cup assists outweigh his solitary FA Cup goal, too.

What is Arsenal's record vs Tottenham?

Arsenal vs Tottenham dates back to 1896 – a time when this wasn't even a North London derby as 'Woolwich Arsenal' played in South London.

Arsenal won that first game 2-1 and have since gone on to have the superior record across a total of 207 meetings between the two. In total, the Gunners have won on 86 occasions.

Spurs have replied with 67 wins, leaving 54 draws between the two famous clubs.

Sticking to just the Premier League era, Arsenal are still the dominant club here. They've played 62 top-flight games since the formation of the Premier League, with the Gunners winning 24 of those. Spurs have managed only 15 in reply, with the points splitting on 23 occasions.

What are Arsenal's recent results vs Tottenham?

The last five games have been very good to Arsenal. They won both of the games last season, 3-1 at home and then 2-0 away. That was a response to losing 3-0 at Spurs towards the end of the 2021/22 season.

The two before that were Arsenal wins, too – 2-1 and 3-1, both at home. It means the Gunners have won four of the last five North London derbies.

However, they hadn't won any of the five before that, losing three and drawing two. In fact, their clean sheet in the most recent fixture was Arsenal's first since late 2017.

When is Arsenal vs Tottenham?

Arsenal will host Tottenham on Sunday, September 24th at 14:00 UK time. It'll be each side's second post-international break fixture, so we should get a pretty good idea of where they're at.

Arsenal will hope to build on their enormously promising campaign last season. They shocked everyone with a title challenge and while it petered out in the end, there's little doubt that they made great strides. Signing Declan Rice only boost the confidence further going into this one.

Spurs had a very different season. They just couldn't find consistency and never even threatened the top-four spots, let alone the title. That's led to some big changes, both in the dugout and on the pitch. The hope will be that a new era breathes new life into Tottenham – something they sorely need.

As always, this will be a big one. The game rarely, if ever, disappoints and both teams can make big statements by winning the derby early in the season. Arsenal will turn to their stars of last season to lead them, while Spurs may need to find a new hero who can take them back up the table.

South Africa ahead despite Pandya's all-round heroics

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details (Viewers in the Indian subcontinent can watch highlights of the Test here)In their first innings of a season in which they’ll be living out of their briefcases, India realised they forgot to pack something rather important. The middle of the bat. They were 92 for 7 and the Newlands Test began to look like another one in a long line of dismal performances away from home. Two months ago, when Hardik Pandya was rested from the Test team, he spoke about playing in South Africa in this way. “I might be the difference, let’s see.” Living up to his own lofty billing, the 24-year old allrounder defied a fearsome fast-bowling attack to make 93 off 95 balls. South Africa did eventually secure a lead of 77 runs, bowling India out for 209, but it might have come at a sizeable cost. With three overs to tea, Dale Steyn injured his left heel and there are concerns that he may he out of the series.Cape Town, as it did on the first day, continued spoiling cricket fans rotten. Vernon Philander began the day with five successive maidens. Kagiso Rabada was just plain mean. Morne Morkel seemed to be pushing through his action better; the snap of his wrist had been more palpable and those awkwardly rising deliveries came with greater frequency. Steyn, while fit, calmly moved to 418 Test wickets, three away from the national record. Can you spot a weak link in there? Given helpful conditions, each of them can be a spearhead. They also pose different questions to a batsman, are incredibly accurate, and hate giving away runs. All of that meant India had not a moment of respite. They made only 29 in the first 18 overs – the point when they lost their first wicket of the day. Back then, the plan was to survive. Invest time in the middle as the surface flattens out and hope to have wickets in hand when the bowlers start to tire. And they did. They also got frustrated because Pandya wasn’t trussing himself up and presenting his wicket to them. As audacious as the shots he played were – upper cuts to a 145 kph bouncer, a flat-batted biff over extra cover to get to his fifty and a still-headed down-the-track flick through midwicket – he was also thoughtful. Once, when he was beaten while playing a cut shot – he’s very good at that – he queried his partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar whether his execution was off or if the ball had kept low. The exchange of information continued all the way through their 99-run stand for the eighth wicket.Pandya made runs all around the dial. Crucially, he threw South Africa off their plans. They began bowling around the wicket, targeting his body. That left lbw in the bin. He walked at Philander first ball, giving a bowler who relies exceedingly on lateral movement something more to think about than the outside edge. That his strokeplay is eye-catching is no surprise. But his ease in countering a quality bowling line-up in Test cricket certainly was. India may have finally found a bankable seam-bowling allrounder, the discovery taking place while their greatest ever was celebrating his 59th birthday.South Africa could, of course, have saved themselves some irritation if Dean Elgar had held on to a sharp catch at gully when Pandya was only 15. Prior to that, he overturned Richard Kettleborough’s verdict of caught behind with the help of a review. Steyn was the aggrieved bowler on both occasions, and his day only got worse when he hobbled off the field. The loss of a bowling leader often derails campaigns. But as in Perth 2016, Rabada stepped up. His third ball of the day was clocked at 146 kph. It beat the splice of the bat on its way to the wicketkeeper. In light of that, there may be sense in playing him off the back foot. But, he is just as adept as pitching the ball up, and has sensational speed through the air. Rohit Sharma found that out the hard way when he was late to bring the bat down and was out lbw.Rabada’s next wicket was Pandya – right after he nailed the batsman in the gut – and he was rewarded with a kiss on the forehead from captain Faf du Plessis. The 22-year old is every bit in the mold of his mentor. He was disgruntled that he was used for only seven overs early on. He indulged in angry screams after taking a wicket. He made batsmen hop. He greeted the opposition’s premier spinner with a short ball aimed at the heart. Best of all, when Chesteshwar Pujara played a rare drive through the covers and trotted across for a single, he told the batsman “you hit that so hard, and it didn’t even go off the square.” It had all the hallmarks of a Steyn sledge – the man did memorably respond to Rohit’s call of “come to India, let’s see what happens” with “I have more runs than you do this series” in 2013-14.Pandya’s day was not quite done yet. He came on second-change for India and dismissed both of South Africa’s openers but their lead is already at 142 and the Test remains in their control.

Arsenal: Late £17m signing could usurp Gabriel at the Emirates

Arsenal could be one of the sides opting to take a late dip into the transfer market, as the Premier League prepares for the close of the window on Friday.

The Gunners have used the summer to recruit wisely, welcoming Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice and David Raya to strengthen in all areas, however an early injury blow has disrupted the depth going into the season.

50 minutes into his debut and Mikel Arteta’s side’s league opener, Timber was forced to withdraw with the club later announcing that the Dutchman will be absent for the foreseeable future.

For that reason, and with departures expected, Arsenal have been linked to defensive reinforcements ahead of deadline day.

Who could Arsenal sign this summer?

As reported by news in Spain, Arteta could be plotting a reunion with one of the talents he worked with during his time at Manchester City.

The report links Barcelona centre-back Eric Garcia with a move to the Emirates, as the Spaniard weighs up his options with reference to his expected role at the Nou Camp this season.

It’s reported that a fee of €20m (£17m) would be the region that the Catalan giants would expect for the 22-year-old, according to other reports in Spain (as relayed by Football365 earlier in the year), who has a mammoth €400m (£344m) release clause in place.

What is Eric Garcia’s playing style?

Previously lauded as an “elegant” player who’s “excellent on the ball” by scout Jacek Kulig, Garcia has been schooled in the art of defending by the famed La Masia academy, as well as at City’s Etihad campus.

The Spaniard would be the ideal fit for Arteta’s plans of his back line, with one of his most notable qualities being his ability to play the ball, highlighted by his average of 7.49 progressive passes per 90 over the past year, via FBref.

Such numbers rank him in the top 1% of centre-backs in Europe's top five leagues in this area, suggesting his strength and composure in playing the ball from the back, an attribute favoured in Arsenal’s style of play.

In signing Garcia, the Gunners could find themselves armed with a talent capable of far more than being a rotational figure to the likes of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, with the 22-year-old already built to play in the Premier League.

With reference to Garcia’s progress at City, Kulig tipped the defender to become a “future world-beater”, high praise for a player so young being part of two of the most impressive sides in Europe.

During his time in Manchester, the Spaniard gained 19 Premier League appearances across two seasons, being part of only four defeats in that time and adapting well to the demands of the English game.

His experience in England already backs his cause to become a favourite in north London, in a figure that could see the likes of Gabriel usurped by his ability and suitability to Arteta's style of play.

When comparing the two players based on their averages in their respective 2022/23 league campaigns, the numbers suggest that the two could be in close competition at the Emirates.

As per FBref, Gabriel averaged 1.27 tackles and 2.64 aerial wins per 90 for Arsenal, closely followed by Garcia who recorded 1.46 aerial wins and 1.52 tackles per 90 in LaLiga last term.

In terms of distribution, the Spaniard showed up the Brazilian with respect to last season's displays, averaging a monstrous 8.26 final third passes per 90 while maintaining a pass completion rate of 90.9%.

Arteta’s centre-back registered an average of 4.51 final third passes and a pass completion rate of 89.4% per 90 in the Premier League, equally impressive numbers but ones that only reinforce the talent of Garcia.

With deadline day fast approaching, Gabriel could find his position in the starting XI even more threatened than it currently is, as the former Lille colossus still waits for his first Premier League start of the campaign.

Rangers manager news: 3-4-2-1 ‘genius’ could replace Beale at Ibrox

An update has emerged on Glasgow Rangers and their plans to potentially replace Michael Beale as the club's head coach this month.

What's the latest Rangers manager news?

According to FootballTransfers, ex-Chelsea boss Graham Potter is one of four names on the shortlist to come in for the current Light Blues manager if they decide to part ways with the Englishman.

The report claims that Steven Gerrard's former assistant is on the 'brink' of losing his job after 'unacceptable' defeats to Celtic and PSV in the Scottish Premiership and Champions League respectively.

It states that the clash with St. Johnstone after the international break is a must-win match for Beale, whose recruitment over the summer has left the board less than impressed.

What is Graham Potter's style of management?

Rangers chairman John Bennett could hire a big upgrade on the current Light Blues head coach by completing a deal for the out-of-contract Potter.

The 48-year-old tactician has been out of work since his exit from Premier League giants Chelsea in April and could, therefore, be an ideal target for the Gers as they would not have to negotiate with another team to secure his services.

Potter has the potential to come in as an upgrade on Beale in the dugout as he has a proven track record of being able to improve teams over time, whereas his compatriot remains unproven in that regard.

Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter.

The 3-4-2-1 manager started his managerial career with Swedish side Ostersunds, who were in the third tier at the time. He won the league title in his first season before finishing tenth, fifth, and then second – winning promotion – in three second-division campaigns, as per Transfermarkt.

Potter, who was hailed as a "genius" by journalist Sam Morton, then led the team to an eighth and then a fifth-placed finish in the top-flight of Swedish football before Championship side Swansea snapped him up for the 2018/19 season.

He finished tenth with the Swans and earned a Premier League move to Brighton & Hove Albion, where the English tactician truly excelled, finishing 15th, 16th, and then ninth before leaving them fourth in the table after six matches at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Beale, by comparison, is yet to finish a full season in charge of a club and has not won a single trophy in his career to date, after failing to secure silverware with the Gers last term.

His style of play, or lack thereof, has also been called into question. Indeed, RangersReview writer Derek Clark recently claimed that there is no clear identity from Rangers on the pitch.

The Gers appeared to sit back and try to go with a long-ball approach to Cyriel Dessers in the first half of their defeat to Celtic last weekend but have averaged 63.2% possession in the Premiership this season without any clear patterns of play on display across all four matches.

Potter, on the other hand, is wedded to a possession-based style of play that has an emphasis on the wing-backs in his 3-4-2-1 system stepping forward to create angles for the midfielders in build-up situations.

This allows his teams to play simple and effective football in the final third as there is usually a player in a good position to receive the ball and move it on.

Therefore, Potter could be an upgrade on Beale due to his proven ability to improve clubs whilst also having a clear identity on the pitch that fans can get behind, which is why Bennett must swoop for him.
