WHAT HAPPENED?
With reports filtering through that Southgate was ready to switch to a back three against Switzerland, many assumed that the Liverpool star would start at right wing-back. However, The Sun expect Kieran Trippier, who has played on the left throughout the tournament, to move to a more natural position on the right instead.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Elsewhere in England's expected line-up, Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa fills in for the suspended Marc Guehi, and will make his tournament debut if he is selected, Bukayo Saka starts opposite Trippier on the left, Kobbie Mainoo retains his place next to Declan Rice and Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham fill in as dual No.10s.
The full XI reads: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Konsa; Trippier, Mainoo, Rice, Saka; Bellingham, Foden; Kane.

Bellingham's availability serves as a relief to Southgate. The midfielder, who netted a stunning equaliser in England's last-16 win over Slovakia, avoided a suspension for his goal celebration. But that hasn't prevented the 21-year-old being labelled 'cocky' and 'arrogant' ahead of the Switzerland encounter.

WHAT NEXT FOR ENGLAND?
England haven't played their best football so far in Germany but they're just two wins away from a second straight European Championship final. Still, Murat Yakin's Switzerland showed in their 2-0 win over Italy that they aren't pushovers, and their goalkeepers are going to extreme lengths to get ready for Harry Kane and co.
Aston Villa have been named as one of several sides ready to make a bid for a Premier League outcast this summer, but will face Serie A competition for his signature.
Villa eyeing Champions League football
Aston Villa are on course for Champions League football for the first time since 1982/83 thanks to an excellent season under Unai Emery. With 11 games left of the season, they sit firmly in fourth place in the Premier League, five points ahead of Tottenham (though they have a game in hand) and a massive 11 points clear of Manchester United in sixth place.
They also remain in the Europa Conference League and begin their road to the final with a two-legged affair against Ajax, where they will be hoping that Emery's uncanny ability to win games of knockout football will come to the fore.
Despite having plenty left to play for this season, attention has already turned to the summer transfer window and there is plenty of speculation surrounding several Villa Park stars amid financial fair play concerns.
However, there are also suggestions that incomings are also under consideration.

As per a report from TeamTalk, Villa are one of the clubs keen on a move for Arsenal outcast Kieran Tierney this summer, with Celtic and a host of Italian clubs also reportedly ready to bid for the 26-year-old.
They claim that Tierney will be allowed to leave north London permanently this summer and that Arsenal will be holding out for a fee of around £26m to let him depart. This would allow them to make a profit on the £25m they paid Celtic for his services in 2019, and also fund the reportedly hefty summer transfer business of their own, which is thought to involve additions at striker and in central midfield.
kieran-tierney-unai-emery
Given his situation in the north London pecking order, however it seems unlikely that the Gunners will be receiving any offers in that region.
Tierney has two years left to run on his £110,000 per week contract in north London, but does not appear to have a future at the Emirates Stadium. He has spent this season on loan with Spanish outfit Real Sociedad and has done little to suggest that he will be able to add anything to Mikel Arteta's title-challenging squad, with Jakub Kiwior having looked more at-ease with the left-back role in recent weeks and Oleksandr Zinchenko still expected to be an important figure from that position.
That does not make Tierney a bad left back though. Former Chelsea star Ashley Cole showered him with praise during his first season at the Emirates, explaining: "When he’s in the team, they are a different team, he’s willing to defend, he’s that kind of leader and warrior they need in this team."
His defensive numbers speak for themselves, with the Scot among the finest in Europe when it comes to 1vs1 defending.

Signed by Emery initially at Arsenal, the Spaniard clearly had something in mind on how to get the best out of the ex-Celtic man and could well make another play for him this summer with the future of Lucas Digne looking less than secure at Villa Park.
Liam Livingstone was picked up in the £125,000 bracket, while Chris Gayle and Lasith Malinga were overlooked
Alan Gardner20-Oct-2019There were big-name omissions, surprise picks and several bumper paydays for local players as the draft for the Hundred took place in London. Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan legspinner, was the first name selected in what is a ground-breaking exercise in British sport, while Chris Gayle and Lasith Malinga were among the top-bracket overseas stars to be overlooked in the opening round. With England Test players and a pair of ‘local icons’ already selected earlier this month, the eight teams each had to fill 12 more spots in their squads for next year’s inaugural competition. The format allowed 100 seconds for the team management to settle on their choices, with the Trent Rockets kicking things off by taking Rashid.West Indies allrounder Andre Russell was second out of the hat, selected by Southern Brave, followed by Aaron Finch going to the Northern Superchargers and Mitchell Starc to Welsh Fire. Australia players were popular – the Future Tours Programme leaves them available for the whole of the Hundred – with Steven Smith, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell and D’Arcy Short all among those taken at £125,000 (USD161,000).ALSO READ: The Hundred draft – as it happened”It’s going to be exciting to be in the first ever hundred-ball comp,” Smith told Sky via a satellite link. “I’m looking forward to joining the Welsh Fire, Jonny [Bairstow] and Starcy and the boys there – it looks a good squad that they’ve picked up so far so I’m looking forward to it.”There were also eye-catching deals for domestic players, with Liam Livingstone picked up in the first round by Birmingham Phoenix – more than doubling his earnings after setting a £60,000 (USD78,000) reserve price – while the Manchester Originals went down the local route by taking Dane Vilas, Lancashire’s captain, for £125,000.The second round, with contracts pegged at £100,000 (USD129,000), saw young English batsmen Phil Salt and Tom Abell make their way north to Manchester, while World Cup winner Liam Dawson was signed to play at his local ground, the Ageas Bowl, for Southern Brave. England wicketkeeper Sam Billings was picked up by the Oval Invincibles and experienced allrounder Ravi Bopara went to Birmingham Phoenix. With overseas players unable to be purchased at below their base price, there were several notable omissions – perhaps influenced in part by availability. Alongside Gayle and Malinga, South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada was overlooked in the £125,000 bracket, while the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Trent Boult missed out on the £100,000 slots.Shakib had been touted as a popular pick but Bangladesh’s programme of Tests against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in July and August next year rendered his availability uncertain; similarly, Babar Azam had entered with a £75,000 price tag after a finishing as the leading run-scorer in this year’s Blast, but is likely to be involved in Pakistan’s Test series against England.”Coming here I was confident that I would get picked up,” Russell said. “Not sure which team but I was confident. If I didn’t get picked up then I’d be surprised. But I’d understand that because you’ve got a lot of good players all around the world and they’re all here in the draft to be picked. With the likes of Chris Gayle, Bravo, Malinga and those guys that didn’t get picked up, I would have that feeling right now like them.”The draft took place in Sky’s west London complex, using a bespoke studio featuring eight three-man pods from which the teams could make their deliberations. The head coaches were all in attendance, accompanied in most cases by an assistant and the team’s analyst, with the early rounds concluded relatively quickly – few picks took anywhere near 100 seconds as the top targets were snapped up.The Hundred main draft picks•Getty ImagesDarren Lehmann, head coach of the Northern Superchargers, was pleased to have got his top three picks – Finch, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Chris Lynn – while Shane Warne, his counterpart at London Spirit, said there had been a few “surprises” but he was happy with how things had panned out.”To have [Mark] Wood and [Mohammad] Amir as opening bowlers, the spin of Mason Crane, [Roelof] van der Merwe and Maxwell is pretty good, gives a lot of variety and we’ve got some guys that can bash it – and I think the Hundred is going to be about bashing it,” Warne said. With 96 picks to be made and 571 names in the draft, there were bound to be more losers than winners on the night. England quick Olly Stone missed out, having set a reserve price of £50,000 (USD65,000), as did former internationals such as Samit Patel, Steven Finn, Ian Bell and Morne Morkel, who was available as a domestic player via his Kolpak deal with Surrey.Other noteworthy picks included Essex’s Blast-winning pair of Simon Harmer and Ryan ten Doeschate going to Welsh Fire, where they will be joined by Liam Plunkett and Ravi Rampaul (but no Welsh players). Birmingham signed New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi – although his availability could also be in question – while Afghanistan allrounder Mohammad Nabi went to London Spirit. West Indies allrounder Fabian Allen won a deal at the Invincibles, and New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner heads to Manchester. There were some early trends that stood out. Southern Brave looked to stock up on pace, adding Russell, Tymal Mills and George Garton to the previously selected pair of Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan. Several teams picked along local lines – Trent Rockets going for Nottinghamshire pedigree in Steven Mullaney, Luke Fletcher, Matt Carter and Tom Moores, while the Superchargers added Durham bowlers Brydon Carse and Nathan Rimmington. Birmingham Phoenix left their choice of wicketkeeper until the final round, before picking up two in Riki Wessels and Chris Cooke.Manchester Originals, meanwhile, set their focus on the longer term, adding Salt, Abell, Joe Clarke, Ed Pollock and Ed Byrom to ‘local icons’ Matt Parkinson and Saqib Mahmood – all of whom are 25 or under. Under the rules for the competition, up to 10 players will be allowed to be retained for the second season in 2021.”I really like the fact that the teams are planning for the future a lot. You look at our side, you’ve got a lot of guys that are in their young 20s,” said Jos Buttler, who was allocated to Manchester before the draft. “It’s fantastic to see all the coaches and staff look at it in that way rather than just the here and now.”You look at Saqib [Mahmood] and [Matt] Parkinson they could be Manchester Originals players for the next 10 years.”
Lockie Ferguson is set to make his Test debut over the coming weeks, having been named in a 15-man New Zealand squad to play England and Australia.Ferguson, who finished as second leading wicket-taker at the 50-over World Cup this summer, has played 44 white-ball internationals, but a Test call-up has escaped him despite an impressive first-class record on account of New Zealand’s strong seam attack.ALSO READ: Ferguson has sights set on Test breakthroughKane Williamson returns from the hip injury that kept him out of the recent T20I series against England to captain the side. There are two changes from the squad that drew 1-1 in Sri Lanka, with Ferguson and legspinner Todd Astle replacing fingerspinners Will Somerville and Ajaz Patel.”There’s no doubt Lockie has been knocking on the door for a while now and we’re delighted to finally bring him into the Test fold,” said selector Gavin Larsen.”It’s well documented he has raw pace, but he also possesses a quality bowling skill set and has proved his durability. He showed good form against England in the recent T20 series and backed that up with a solid outing for the Auckland Aces in the Plunket Shield, where he claimed 4 for 23 against the Wellington Firebirds.”Our pace bowling stocks are strong at the moment and we feel Lockie will add another dimension to the picture, and will create some great competition. There is also a place for Matt Henry, alongside established seam trio Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner, and head coach Gary Stead has suggested that his side will learn from Australia’s rotation policy during the recent Ashes series as a blueprint for selection.”It would be silly for us not to look at that,” he told . “They did rotate their bowlers and it was horses for courses a bit. Like us, they have quite a bit of difference in their attack and definitely we have to consider that.”There had been fears that Williamson’s injury would keep him out for a prolonged period, and he has played only four games since the World Cup final on July 14. But he is set to lead the side in both series, starting with the inaugural Test at Mount Maunganui on November 21.”Kane’s made good progress over the past fortnight,” said Larsen, and we’re delighted to welcome back a player of his class and experience.”New Zealand Test squad: Todd Astle, Tom Blundell, Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Henry Nicholls, Jeet Raval, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, BJ Watling (wk), Kane Williamson (c)Fixtures:vs England (home)November 21: First Test, Mount Maunganui November 29: Second Test, Hamiltonvs Australia (away)December 12: First Test (D/N), Perth December 26: Second Test, Melbourne January 3: Third Test, Sydney
Oman were well ahead in the chase before Namibia’s spinners began a dramatic collapse

Bernard Scholtz gets congratulated after taking another wicket•Peter Della Penna
“Not again”. That’s what Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus said was going through his mind as Khawar Ali was torching his bowlers to take Oman to 55 for 1 after five overs chasing a target of 162. Namibia have gone through more heartbreaks than most teams at the T20 World Cup Qualifier, failing in five qualification playoff matches spread across 2012, 2013 and 2015. That sense of déjà vu was especially present for Erasmus for he was in the XI when Oman upset Namibia four years ago at Malahide chasing 149 to clinch a place at the 2016 T20 World Cup in India. This time Bernard Scholtz’s introduction in the seventh over sparked a stunning fightback as Oman lost 6 for 32 to the left-right spin tandem of Scholtz and Erasmus to help Namibia secure a 54-run win and their first ever trip to the T20 World Cup. JJ Smit was named Man of the Match for his stirring counterattack in the first innings, blitzing a 20-ball half-century before taking two wickets at the end to clinch victory, Namibia’s fifth straight after starting the tournament with back-to-back losses. After overcoming the loss of Jatinder Singh, caught at deep square leg on the second ball of the chase, Ali had been toying with the Namibian pace bowling unit through the rest of the powerplay and took a special liking to Christi Viljoen. Ali drove, pulled and cut him for a trio of fours to start the second over, then pulled him over midwicket and drove him over long-on for a pair of sixes in the fifth. But the wheels came off in the Oman chase upon the arrival of Scholtz. Aqib Ilyas tried to slog sweep the first ball he saw against the spinner and missed, struck on the back leg in front of middle for a straightforward lbw decision to end a 57-run stand. Despite being well ahead of Namibia’s position – they had ended their own powerplay at 36 for 3 – Scholtz and Erasmus seized on Oman’s batting hubris to run amok through the middle order.Captain Zeeshan Maqsood was out sixth ball lofting a drive to long-off in the eighth off Erasmus. Ali charged impetuously at Scholtz four balls later to be out stumped for 41 off 25. Suraj Kumar produced a reckless heave first ball and was fortunate to be spilled by Smit on a straightforward chance at long-on, but refused to adjust his approach and slog swept Erasmus to Jan Frylinck at deep midwicket for 6 in the 12th. Kaleem swatted Scholtz to Frylinck at cow corner for 13 five balls later before Sandeep Goud skied a slog over mid-on for Erasmus to circle back for a sharp over-the-shoulder catch to complete a shocking and in some ways self-inflicted collapse.Smit came back for a late spell to claim Khurram Nawaz with a full delivery in front of middle stump for a leg before decision and then induced a skier to backward point on the first ball of the 20th taken by JP Kotze to end the match. As pivotal as Scholtz’s spell was, there was no doubt that 23-year-old allrounder Smit would be Man of the Match for rallying Namibia with the bat. Erasmus looked like he may have made the same mistake as UAE earlier in the day by choosing to bat first as Namibia found themselves at 82 for 5 in 14 overs. Outside of Niko Davin’s brief flurry in the powerplay, the rest of the top and middle order failed as Oman took command. However, Smit and Craig Williams plundered 67 in a four-over sequence from the 15th through the 18th that turned the match upside down. Smit savaged Oman’s spinners in particular, driving Kaleem’s left-arm spin over long-off and extra cover for a pair of sixes in the 16th, then drove Ali’s legspin almost out of the stadium into the top row of the second tier over long-off to bring up his half-century at a strike rate of 250. One ball later he swatted Ali over wide long-on for six more to leave Oman shellshocked.Bilal Khan dismissed both Williams and Smit off a pair of full tosses in the 19th, adding to two exceptional deliveries in his opening two overs that claimed Stephen Baard at short midwicket on the first ball of the match and a nipbacker to bowl Kotze in the third. Namibia only added 12 runs off the final two overs as a result, but Khan’s spell went to waste.Namibia advance to the semi-finals where they will take on Papua New Guinea on Friday night. Oman get a second crack at claiming one of the final two berths at the T20 World Cup when they take on Hong Kong on Wednesday night in an elimination playoff.

Greenwood set to reunite with Sanchez
Chilean is currently a free-agent
The duo had a fallout five years back at Man Utd
WHAT HAPPENED?
Greenwood is certain to leave Old Trafford this summer with Ligue 1 side Marseille considered favourites to land him. The Red Devils are expected to sanction an initial loan move for the midfielder with an obligation to buy for a fee in the region of €25 million (£21m/$27m) before bonuses next season.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Now the latest report by Gianluca Di Marzio suggests that the 22-year-old may reunite with former United team-mate Sanchez in France as the Chilean could return to Marseille. The former Arsenal and Barcelona star is currently a free agent and could re-sign for his former team whom he left for Inter last summer.
DID YOU KNOW?
Greenwood had a fallout with Sanchez five years back when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge of the club. In August 2019, Sanchez had just returned from Copa America and was recovering from an injury. During a training session in Carrington, the then 30-year-old was fouled by a 17-year-old Greenwood which reportedly led to a bust-up between the two players.

WHAT NEXT FOR MASON GREENWOOD?
The winger could face hostility from a section of Marseille fans who have already launched a campaign against his signing. However, newly appointed manager Roberto De Zerbi has vowed to protect the player if he moves to the club.
Liverpool harvested a wealth of goals against Sparta Prague one week ago in the Europa League and the importance of that success cannot be understated.
Despite performing at a high level across recent weeks, Liverpool's fragility in regard to squad depth was an ominous threat, like a rattling pipe about to burst.
Still, Jurgen Klopp's exemplary work in building the academy over recent years has paid off handsomely with a gushing of teenage talent making an impact this season, duly so as so many recent injuries have formed the core of a threat that did not materialise.
Alexis Mac Allister for Liverpool
Winning 5-1 last Thursday in the Czech Republic has effectively allowed for heavy rotation at Anfield tonight, vital given that a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday looms.
Liverpool team news vs Sparta Prague
Liverpool's injury list is not quite as staggering as it has been across recent weeks and months but there are certainly still more than a few star names ensnared in the medical room.
Ibrahima Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago Alcantara, Ben Doak and Joel Matip all remain sidelined, while Ryan Gravenberch may feature after returning to team training this week.
In his pre-match press conference, Klopp mentioned that Mohamed Salah is "ready to start", however, it is unlikely that the Egyptian talisman will receive a starting berth in the Europa League given that he has not started a match for Liverpool since New Year's Day, injured on international duty and since restricted to cameos, albeit effective ones.

Harvey Elliott is the obvious choice to start on the right wing but Liverpool might actually be wise to unleash one of their most untested prospects given the sizeable four-goal advantage.
It would be Doak, but unfortunately, the exciting talent remains out of action.
Why Ben Doak isn't playing for Liverpool
Doak signed for Liverpool from Scottish giants Celtic back in 2022 as a youth, with the Reds paying a compensation fee of around £600,000 and warding off a host of top European clubs to secure his signature.
Last season, the 18-year-old was handed a smattering of opportunities in Klopp's first team but he featured regularly in pre-season (notably catching the eye against Bayern Munich). He looked to be a member of the squad this year, starting three times in the Europa League group phase and again in the Carabao Cup third-round win over Leicester City.
Described as an "explosive" winger by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the Scotland U21 international is diminutive but blessed with lightning pace and deceptive strength. He's naturally athletic, and he's built to bypass defenders.
After his promising start in the current campaign, Doak was struck down by a knee injury in January and underwent surgery, with an exact timeframe not given but he was expected to be out until April at the earliest and indeed continues to recuperate right now.
His unavailability has meant that Elliott – at his best in a deeper role – has been forced onto the wing with Salah injured, and while either of those players could feature from the outset against Sparta Prague, it really is the perfect opportunity to hand one on the fringe with an opportunity.
Ben Doak for Liverpool.
Indeed, Kaide Gordon is turning into something of a forgotten man on Merseyside, but make no mistake, the 19-year-old knows how to play and must now take his chance to impress on the side of the frontline.
Why Kaide Gordon must start vs Sparta Prague
Gordon has endured a torrid time on the injury front in his early years on the professional scene but he's played three times for Klopp's seniors this season and chipped in with a goal and three assists from six starts in the Premier League 2.
He started against Union Saint-Gilloise back in November during much-changed Liverpool's timid defeat, possibly the worst of the season so far, and while he was understandably out-of-sorts after his interminable layoff, the teenager left much to be desired.

Having said that, he got stuck right in and won five ground duels from seven contests, which is promising to say the least. On the other hand, Gordon failed to contribute with anything of note in attack and he will need to ramp up the gas offensively if he is to make his mark tonight.
Gordon, like Doak, is nimble and versatile and prefers to play from the right even though he's effective on the alternate flank, though he is left-footed and thus excels when slicing inside and striking on goal.
Gordon joined Liverpool from Derby County for around £3m back in 2021 and looked like a real prodigy, lauded for his "exceptional" skill set by Klopp and scoring on his debut in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury Town in January 2022.
However, having missed the entirety of last season, the dynamic winger is no longer the creme-de-la-creme of Anfield's formative fold, and after Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas' applaudable displays against Southampton last month, both on the scoresheet, he will need to recall his innate ability and prove himself worthy of a spot in Liverpool's team.
He signed his first professional contract with Liverpool back in October 2021 and he need not concern himself with expiry dates at this stage, but Thursday night's clash looks likely to be his best and potentially last chance of making a positive impact before the close of the campaign.
Hailed for his "aggressive" return to U21 football this term by manager Barry Lewtas, Gordon must now prove that he has what it takes to stand out among this wave of potential crashing through the Anfield doors.
Given the circumstances, there's no reason why he shouldn't be on the sheet this evening.

Manchester City are on course to sign a French-born youngster after having a bid accepted, according to David Ornstein.
Man City eyeing back-to-back trebles
On the pitch, we are approaching the final stages of the season, with Pep Guardiola’s side still looking to defend their historic treble from the 2022/23 campaign. City are currently battling Arsenal and Liverpool for the Premier League title, while they are also in the quarter-finals of both the FA Cup and Champions League.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
Despite this, Guardiola has played down the prospect of City winning all three major honours once more, saying:
"This is a fairy tale, it's more complicated than that. We have a 99.99% possibility that we are not going to win the treble because never, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever has anyone done it. If it was easy, another team – Manchester United in that time – would do it again. It's not easy. Everything is so difficult in this business, what we did in the past doesn't guarantee anything."
All of Guardiola’s focus will be on on-pitch matters, however, those behind the scenes at the Etihad could soon turn their attention to the transfer market. In fact, it has been reported that long-term target Lucas Paqueta of West Ham United is still on the club’s radar, with City willing to trigger his £86m release clause.
AC Milan winger Rafael Leao also appears to be of interest, with rumours suggesting that City could spend more than £125m on the Portugal international.
Alongside some senior new signings in the summer, the club are also working on bringing in some potential stars in the making, with a development emerging from the Etihad.
Man City have offer accepted for “talent”
Taking to X in the last 48 hours, Ornstein revealed that City are on course to win the race for Cardiff City “talent” Timeo Whisker.
Within his report for The Athletic, Ornstein said that ‘the 15-year-old has excelled in Cardiff’s youth system — attracting interest from some of the country’s leading sides — and it is City who have pounced to win the race’.
A French-born teenager, Whisker could be the latest gem to join City’s academy, with City already dipping into the Championship by signing 15-year-old Finley Gorman from Leeds United, seeing him as a generational talent.
Described as a “quick and powerful” right-footed winger in the media, Whisker will be hoping for a pathway into the City first-team setup over the coming years, making him a youngster to keep an eye on in the academy, should a deal go through as expected.
